In honor of The White Album thread - What's your favorite backmasked song?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backmasking

Backmasking (also known as backward masking)<1> is a recording technique in which a sound or message is recorded backward onto a track that is meant to be played forward. Backmasking is a deliberate process, whereas a message found through phonetic reversal may be unintentional.

For some reason fundies thought this this stuff was some sort of subliminal messages and I remember people who would play albums backwards looking for backmasked stuff. I think even John Denver was accussed of Backmasking.

My favorite were the ELO backmasks, but then again I'm a big ELO fan (maybe that's why I find waterfalls so pretty).

What's your favorite example of backmasking?

1. I worked at the campus radio station
Doing my practicum as a DJ and news reader, back in the day we were spinning records. I remember bringing my copy of the White Album there, and privately spinning parts of it backwards. To this day, I am still fascinated by the gibberish between I'm So Tired and Blackbird, where it seems to state, "Paul is dead man, miss him, miss him...".

2. The Beatles, "Rain"
The difference between screwing around ("Revolution #9") and an actual song ("Rain.")

If I had to pick ten perfect songs written by Lennon...and I probably would never limit myself to that..."Rain" would have to be on the list somewhere. Something else would have to go to make room for it.

3. Cheap Trick -- How Are You? from the LP Heaven Tonight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIVqVvGy9ko

Outside of a good porno movie, this is the only judicious use of a wah-wah pedal I can stand. Rick is a master of that annoying tone shifting doo-dad.

Anybody wannna guess what the backward message is that occurs at 57 seconds into this song. Anybody know? Anybody care?

Tune in next week...

No seriously though. We cared. When we were teenagers. So, we rolled a doobie, got out the record out, put it on a quality Thorens turntable that you could manipulate by hand, grabbed a pencil and paper and prepared to decipher the evil message contained therein. The mask was a sped up backwards recording of the band yelling the Lords Prayer just slightly off mic. Sinister huh?
I been thinkin' twice 'bout doin' bad ever since.

4. It's a song i heard on the Dr. Demento show,
that was a cover of the song "New York, New York".
He created it by playing the original song backwards
then he sang the vocals, imitating what he was
hearing of the original song playing backwards.
Then he played that recording backwards so the song
was double backwards.
I can't find any audio copy
of this song on the web.
