Oh boy Coens oh boy Bridges oh boy!
True Grit Trailer Now Online

There are few things in the film calendar more exciting than the debut of a new Coen Brothers movie, and in that vein we're terribly pleased to bring you the first trailer for True Grit, their return to the West after the sabbaticals of A Serious Man and Burn After Reading.

This time they're joined by one of their best casts yet, led by Jeff Bridges' grizzled Marshal Reuben J Cogburn, Matt Damon's LaBoeuf and Josh Brolin's Ton Chaney. It also stars newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross and Barry Pepper as Lucky Ned Pepper. Hmm, some typecasting in that last role, we feel.

1. Jeff Bridges will be great in it.
It looks promising.

John Wayne, the original Reuben/"Rooster" Cogburn, was among my least favorite actors. He was unconvincing in any role. Whenever I saw him in a movie, his "acting" suspended my suspension of disbelief.

2. I can't wait...
With that heavyweight cast, it should be a great movie.

4. They remade True Grit?
I would've thought the Wilford Brimley version (1969) was definitive...

6. It's the Coen Brothers. They don't do "remakes."
They make great films. Not their fault if someone made a film by the same title before they got to. :)

8. it's based on the novel rather than the 1969 version
So it's a remake in a certain sense, but the movie isn't their source material.

5. The original is one of the few Westerns I like, but I have a feeling this one
will surpass it. There are three filmmakers I can't imagine putting out a bad film--Pixar, Miyazaki, and the Coens. Even when they are off, they are better than the rest.

And what the Hell happened to Josh Brolin. Three years ago he was the untalented son of a mediocre TV actor. Now he's one of the best in Hollywood. Whatever he did, I want to try it.
