If you do, are they turned up?
It's the only thing I could think of!
Good luck.

8. Check the volume settings on what you |

are trying to listen to, and the speakers, and the central volume control on your computer.

9. Do you know how to check the drivers for your sound card? |
|
If not, what OS are you running?
As long as it's not Win7 or Windows 3.1 I can probably walk you though it (but not those two OSs because I haven't used a Win 3.1 machine in about 15 years and the only Win7 machine I've ever used doesn't let me have admin access so I don't know how to do anything in Control Panel.)

10. Have you had sound recently? |
|
If it just started today then the simplest thing would be to restart and let all your drivers get reloaded it may have just been a quirk while windows was loading up.
Did you right-click the speaker at the bottom right to fully open the controls? Make sure none of the choices is muted.
Otherwise it could be a missing audio driver (but unlikely it would just disappear).

Try Start/Orb and then Help and Support on the right hand side. In Help window type troubleshoot sound. It will give you an option to start the troubleshooter. I haven't used it but Win7 is very good at automatically fixing problems. See what it says.

18. Glad you got it sorted! |

I turned on Hawaii Five-O and let this thread slide.
I'm running Win7 and must admit that Microsoft got their automatic troubleshooters just about right. I know I've had a few networking problems over the past several months and it has always been able to fix things automatically. Back in XP all the troubleshooter did was ask a bunch of irrelevant questions and then end up with no suggestions. Sometimes new things really are progress.

17. Have you purchased any other electronic devices recently? |

Your computer could be jealous and is giving you the silent treatment...
Don't know much about Windows 7, but if you have automatic updates running it's possible that a new (and non-functioning) driver was installed. You could try rolling back to the previous driver. Or, you could try running Windows update to see if a new driver is available.
