Let's say that this is a hypothetical
So you're interviewing for a job at a new company, and halfway through your conversation you realize with 100% certainty that you've seen the HR rep in half a dozen recent porn films. Heck, even the rep's name is the same.

Do you mention it?

Seems to me that it would be perfect subject matter when they ask "do you have any questions for us?"

job security in that knowledge, if you get the job.

"Blackmail" is such an ugly word. I'd prefer to think of it as "potential leverage."

How did he or she do in the movies? were they good to watch?

3. Your the one that watched the porn, what is your point again?
Edited on Tue Sep-28-10 04:17 AM by RandomThoughts
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

To be more serious, if the person did such acting becuase she did not have security in money then the system is at fault for people having to do such a thing to make money. If she wanted to, then it is a consenting adult situation.

And to be honest sexual shame is how a small group tries to keep many people in line in many sectors, so nobody should be shamed for such a thing, and if someone feels it is wrong then opinions should be expressed with love not judgment.

7. You make a great point, but I didn't mean to imply shame (not for me nor the hypothetical HR rep)
But maybe this should be the followup question: If I'd seen them in a recent commercial for JCPenney or Macy's, would I mention it?

9. Great modification to the question, that does clarify it.
That brings up the concept of privacy in matters of personal behavior, and how most people feel far more comfortable having some things that are their business and not conversation. Also why smears are used for blackmail often.

The initial post creates a contradiction in that, since the feelings of concept of privacy exist, but the action the hr lady choose, was one of willful removal of her privacy by such a previous event.

So that creates the first question quandary, that contradiction is the concept that such a topic is not for conversation, but the HR person did without worry of privacy. You feel she would want privacy, but know she did not when making the film. (Note many smears are stolen privacy by eavesdropping or honey trap, and are different situations.)

The answer to that first question would depend if she has her new HR job because she changed her thinking on the topic of being in porn, or because she did it at that time for reasons other then best choice, like financial or lack of thought on the issue.

And since you could not answer that question, nor is there an easy way to find the answer to that question from her with a secondary question, it would be best to not mention it.

That would be best guess, great question by the way.

4. Was it good porn?
If so I'd ask for an autograph in case I don't get the job.

5. What kind of porn?
Just normal sex? Not till you've got the job.

Straight male doing gay porn? No. (Yes, this happens. It's common even because gay porn pays male talent better than straight porn. Significantly.)

3some,4some, orgy: "Dear madam/sir, I really enjoyed your work in _____________. It made me a better man."

(Wo)Man on horse: You just need to forget you ever saw that shizzle.

Amateur: They might not be aware of their stardom if their ex is a bastard, so...no.

Rope-bondage: If they're female and attractive, could you see you way to introducing me? (C'mon.)

I bet their sexual harassment training videos are a lot better than the lame ones our company uses.

15. Realistically, I think any personal questions at all about the interviewer would be
a bad idea.

Hypothetically, I think it's worth asking the question just on the slim chance that it could lead to a great "Dear Penthouse..." moment. There are other jobs, after all...

16. I would not mention it.
Not until I got to know the person. I don't have any way of knowing if she (he) is proud of this previous line of work, if indeed it's behind her (him). Not being a prudish person who looks down on porn stars, I don't personally see it as a negative but I understand why someone would prefer to keep it under wraps. As a kindness, I wouldn't bring it up.

Further, mentioning it during the interview indicates prior to hiring that you're a porn aficionado, and that might easily cost you the job - because you don't know if the interviewer has the final say on the hire. Jobs being kinda hard to get and keep these last few decades, that doesn't seem wise to me.

One last thought: Linda Lovelace famously (infamously) made Deep Throat and then infamously (or famously, your choice) turned to religion and started publicly denouncing pornography. Your interviewer might well have "found religion" like so many others and then lost her (his) mind... like so many others. Another reason to refrain from mentioning it.

It would make a difference whether it was the one I was going "Oh, yeah, baby" over or the one I was trying not to watch in the film.

However, your nuanced character portrayal was quite insightful."

20. Say "You look familiar. Have I seen you in...commercials?"
This was my planned response when I kept seeing one of my favorite porn people around town. Sadly, after I came up with that, I never saw her again.
