Tiger Woods Fired Up By Rory McIlroy’s Comments
Remember when Rory McIlroy openly said he hoped Tiger Woods would be on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, because with his recent struggles, “anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him?” Whether McIlroy intended or them to be or not, they were fighting words, and we hoped Tiger would remember them for some extra-intense Ryder Cup motivation. He didn’t disappoint.

Someone finally asked Tiger about McIlroy’s comments on Tuesday. Here’s how that went down:

Asked his reaction to McIlroy’s comments, Woods wasted few words.

“Me, too,” he said.

Asked if he cared to elaborate, Woods said, “No.”

Apparently he’s planning on letting his golf do the talking for him, which is fne, because in those three words, he said more than enough. He could have said he didn’t mind it, didn’t think it was a big deal, etc. But he didn’t. ESPN’s Bob Harig pointed out that Tiger once rode a similar motivational kick to a runaway match play victory over Stephen Ames. Here’s what Ames said:

“How he goes about scoring from where he hits it — that’s the amazing thing,” Ames told The Golf Channel. “That’s the mark of a true champion. As bad as he hits it, he still manages to win golf tournaments.”

Ames also told the Associated Press, “Anything can happen, especially where he’s hitting the ball.” Associated Press golf writer Doug Ferguson was quick to point out in his story that Ames was smiling when he said it.

Sure, he criticized Tiger’s accuracy from the tee, but also called him a “true champion” who was able to overcome those struggles. And “anything can happen” isn’t exactly “fancy his chances.” If Ames’ comments sent Tiger through the roof, we can only imagine how he’s stewing over what McIlroy said.

McIlroy had better not leave his girlfriend unattended... Well, it's probably good advice for everyone hide their wives/girlfriends/mistresses from Tiger...
