To my coworker: Go to hell. |
|
Because I cannot tell this to your face: Go fuck yourself you little brown-nosing tattletale.
I guess most of us (being human, unlike yourself) just want things to be a little more fair around here. I am sorry you cannot handle that I am less perfect than you, you paragon of hard work. I hate my job mostly because I hate you. You make my work life a living hell and as soon as I find something better, I am telling you what I really think of tattletales like you.

6. But seriously how do you tiptoe around someone who is a tattletale? |
|
I find myself dreading being around this person because it seems no transgression, real or imagined, is small enough for him to run to the boss about. I am sick of it. I don't like my job and mostly can't even pretend to but he makes it so much worse than it has to be.

7. You're missing out on some bigtime fun here. |
|
Go utterly overboard in the other direction. Come to work in a skirt (change immediately and look innocent). Do the Chicken Dance at unexpected moments. Get a buddy to huddle with you, look obviously in his direction, and laugh uproariously. Put a whoopee cushion under his seat. Everything utterly harmless, utterly innocent, and utterly defendable as eithr "I beg your pardon?" or "Oh, I mistook you for a buddy." It's kind of like giving him kittens to herd. He'll wear out eventually.

9. Jobs are hard to come by |
|
But get your resume in order and start looking around. Seriously, workplace stress is a killer. You spend the majority of your waking hours there, and having to watch every last step or misstep is like living in a field of land mines. Find a new position. You don't have to tell your co-worker off (as satisfying as that might be) as you head out the door, but when you tell the powers that be why you're leaving, you can say it's because of the toxic atmosphere created by the little beady-eyed buggers ruining it for everyone. Smart bosses will know exactly who and what you're talking about (they hear from The Informer constantly), and dumb bosses deserve to go out of business if they don't take this kind of situation in hand.

12. I've been trying for years. I've had many interviews but no offers. |
|
Some of that is my fault; I am trying to learn the skills necessary to interview well. (As an aside, my boyfriend gets every job he interviews for. Every single one, whether he wants it or not. I'm a little jealous of that ability actually).
Part of it is being in a tough field in a tough economy.

11. Catch him in the dark |

Slip up behind him, pull a sack down over his head where he can't see you and proceed to wail on his ass with a piece of rubber hose. That will teach his ass to be a damn snitch!

I think you need a hug alarimer. And I think we've all walked in your shoes at one time or another. And unfortunately, there are times when there is nothing we can do but endure.
And I'm not a believer in karma, you know that crap "what goes around, comes around," blah, blah, blah.
Some low-life's just seem to live a charmed life.
Hope that things get better for you - and soon.

My small comfort is that this person is probably going to stay where he is. I get a lot of interviews for better positions but he does not (largely because I went back to school and got my MS, which seems to get my foot in the door at least).
I'm thinking that at the very least, I should move to another office, even if I am doing the same job there.

You have my sympathy. I never understood why some people are only happy when everyone else is miserable.

15. I wish you luck finding a different position. Keep looking and |
|
sooner or later, it will be your turn. Sadly, these type of people are just about everywhere (kind of like cockroaches). My strategy is basically to go in, do my job, and just avoid everyone. I am friendly to everyone, but just keep my nose in my work.
My boss's management strategy was always to keep everyone at each other's throat. He was the one to drop little comments about "what he heard about" me, and telling me not to get to close to so-and-so if I was starting to get friendly. The atmosphere at this point is so toxic that he is concerned about the lack of teamwork (duh). This is backfiring on him and he can't control it anymore. But I just do my job, and I also keep my ear to the ground. There is little opportunity right now so just find that way to cope without allowing it to stress you out. Good luck.

16. It's hard to avoid people when you have to work closely together. |

When we are out and about, it's usually two of us out doing our work. It is next to impossible to avoid working with him.
