Comedian Greg Giraldo is dead at 44
Comedian Greg Giraldo Is Dead
9/29/2010 2:15 PM PDT by TMZ Staff

Comedian Greg Giraldo died today at the age of 44 -- five days after he was hospitalized for an overdose.

Greg had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, NJ after he overdosed on prescription pills last weekend. A source said the overdose was not a suicide attempt.

Giraldo was best known for his celebrity roast appearances. He had also been a judge on "Last Comic Standing."

A source close to Greg tells us, "Greg passed away today at the hospital in New Brunswick as a result of an accidental overdose. His family was by his side."

We're told plans are being made for a public memorial service.

2. God, how sad, how sad, how sad.
You just can't screw around with that stuff. Some very, very fine people have been lost to accidental ODs and yet it's so easy to believe you're not in danger. RIP, and hope his family finds some peace too.

20. I never heard of him before today, despite your adamancy.
I am very progressive and love comedy and have never heard of him. So, bullshit me or whatevah.

22. Never heard of him either
Don't know what deleted message said but I think it's ok if someone hasn't heard of him. I am very progressive, too. Do I lose my progressive card because I never heard of him?

23. It implied, in an ad hominem way
that there were only two possibilities for why a progressive would not know of him. Neither reason was particularly appealing as a character trait.

8. So sad... I blame Larry the Cable Guy...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy2Ako8PMpk

I used to suffer through Colin Quinn's "Tough Crowd" on the frequent nights Greg would appear... when they let him talk, he managed to be funny AND make a lot of sense. Had always hoped he would find a way to make it big, but he never quite hit the big time, while other dimwits (like "Larry") were raking it in.

Greg, I hope you're in a better place...

12. He's DEAD?!1 All I know is how crappy the RednecKKK commedians were to him
There was this roast and the "You-know-You're-a-Redneck" superstar said to GIRALDO, "Hey, Greg (like, you-re-so-superior/elite/Eastern/whatever), Larry the Cable Guy has HIS OWN PERSONAL JET!1"

So long, Greg.

13. I didn't know it was possible to be terminally unfunny
Or that it a nominal "comedian" could knock himself dead.

19. Since I don't pass myself off as a comedian, I'm under no obligation to succeed as a comedian
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 07:25 AM by Orrex
I have no plans to become a surgeon, but if a surgeon accidentally cuts off the wrong leg, I can say with confidence that he's a lousy surgeon.

You're clinging to the classic misconception that one must be of superior skill before one can offer criticism; not only is that a fallacy, but it also encourages lower quality as the norm.

Additionally, your profound grief at this comedy giant's death appears to have clouded your sensibilities: a man who made a career of mercilessly roasting celebs and faux-celebs would be the first to applaud a cheap post mortem zinger.

27. profound grief for someone on tv who isn't your kin or friend
is unsettling. it makes me wonder if people like that can't distinguish reality from make believe.
