Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 06:08 PM by Ptah
They are part of a street rebuilding project.

"Public art – local artist Simon Donovan is creating the public
art using large boulders inscribed with Tohono O’odham poetry
(in both Tohono O’odham and English) at strategic points along
the roadway. The poetry is the work of Ofelia Zepeda, Tohono O’odham
poet and scholar, UA linguistics professor, a Tucson poet laureate,
and longtime neighborhood resident."

Wow, I love the poetry, and the placing of the boulders at various points was a brilliant idea!

Thanks for posting the pictures and the information.

7. Thanks. Where did you find the pictures?
Is there a collection online? Did you take the pictures yourself?

I feel an obsession starting! The poetry is beautiful.

Also, thanks for the links in your other post.

19. Remember Red Dawn was a liberal movie.
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 06:00 AM by RandomThoughts
Movie was made in the 80s after Reagan invasion.

Col. Andy Tanner: All right. Four planes. Cuban bunker, Russian bunker. munitions dump, troop tents. Four machine gun bunkers. Back here by the drive-in screen are your political prisoners. We'll cause a diversion over here... cut holes in the wire here, fire on all these machine gun positions. The B-Group comes across this area in a flanking maneuver... and when you reach this bunker, you lay down grazing fire on this defilade. I think that's pretty simple. Anybody got any questions so far?
Aardvark: What's a "flank?"
Toni: What's a "defilade?"
Robert: What's "grazing fire?"
Col. Andy Tanner: I need a drink.

Radio Free America Announcer: It's 11:59 on Radio Free America; this is Uncle Sam, with music, and the truth until dawn. Right now I've got a few words for some of our brothers and sisters in the occupied zone: "the chair is against the wall, the chair is against the wall", "john has a long mustache, john has a long mustache". It's twelve o'clock, American, another day closer to victory. And for all of you out there, on, or behind the line, this is your song.

Side note, it took me awhile to see past some of the filters in that movie, to find some great things in it.

Erica: "... In the early days of World War 3, guerillas - mostly children - placed the names of their lost upon this rock. They fought here alone and gave up their lives, so that this nation should not perish from the earth."

Red Dawn Part 12

Red Dawn Part 11 Posting this clip because it shows forms of censorship, although it is trying to say that the interpretations are wrong, who choose to put those subtitles on, what makes the claim of interpretations being wrong?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRTbcY9KRUo

It is like the disapproval of the disapproval of disapproval. It is censorship and changing subtitles to say subtitles of subtitles are wrong.

If you watch the movie in its original form, and think on the attributes, not the nouns, you see something different then if you look for who the enemy is by the nouns. Remove the nouns and find the attributes that are best, and you will find why you like the films. The nouns are added to program those attributes to a concept, like bad Ruskies, or in my post bad Reagan.

They can change some words, make some claims, but what are the attributes of the different people on both sides in that clip. That is the real story, not the nouns telling you who is right or wrong.

What values and attributes are in the movie. Not the nouns, what values. That is how you avoid the programming, and it can help to think and feel on things, or so I have found.

21. The second clip could also be saying.
Should you let someone translate for you?

Or should you spend the time to learn what is being said by feeling and thinking on it.

25. I was going to ask exactly WHERE this is, but saw from one of your posts above...
.
.
.
...that it's Mountain Ave between Roger and Ft Lowell (a stretch
that I travelled often when I had a car).
.
.
HAHAHAHAHA!!!! This is the public art adjacent/north of the public
art project that residents protested/had removed from Mountain
Ave just south of this -- part of which they thought resembled
a gushing sewage leak (I could see how they could interpret it
that way, but thought it both hilarious and sad that it -- ahem --
inspired them to, um... you know... form a movement with the
eventual removal/banishment of the original public art).
.
.
.
Art or 'sewage'? You decide: Construction of the artwork has been halted
while the city gets public input. Ballots are due on Monday. From the
Tucson (Ariz.) Citizen,

The beauty of art may be in the eyes of the beholder, but some residents
of three Tucson neighborhoods say they aren't beholden to anyone for the
work of art along North Mountain Avenue.

Construction on the sculpture, which looks to some like sewage spewing
from pipes and a spigot, was halted when it was about half finished.

The negative reaction from residents in the area was so pronounced that
the city's Department of Transportation halted construction and sent
questionnaires to the 3,000 homes in the three neighborhoods, asking
for input.

The questionnaires are due back Monday...

... The design includes "water" that appears to flow from one pipe to
another, disappearing into the soil and re-emerging a short distance away.

(Artist Paul Edwards) chose to finish the sculpture with brown flagstone
mosaic, which he says resembles floodwater.

While some say the "water" should be blue, he said brown is more appropriate.

26. Yeah, those did look like sewage pouring out of those pipes.
Some public art is fantastic, the rattlesnake bridge

and the tiled photos along that stretch of Broadway.

Other pieces not so much; the downtown library 'thing'
