I'm recording 4 albums of the Doobie Brothers for my Mom's neighbor, and it really shows just how BAD they could be, most of the time. A few good tunes. But so much of their music was just shit. "Jesus Is Just All Right With Me" :wtf:
Other groups, well, Led Zeppelin. Same as with the Doobie Brothers, a few good tunes. But so much total shit. "Baby, baby, baby, I got to ramble..." :eyes:
Steve Miller Band. Total shit. And Steve Miller is a frikkin' moron. I saw an interview with him, he sounded like just a total idiot.

Saw them five times. Only once did I even like the show. The rest of the time it was pretty bad. Once I was so pissed becasue of them being HOURS late. The others were a case of rockstar lunacy and excess..
They sucked.

3. Led Zeppelin: Jimmy Page |
|
Robert Plant wasn't quite awful enough to get in the way of Page's dirty guitar. For me, anyway. Bonham was an amazing drummer and Jon Paul Jones an amazing bassist. They were tight, those three.
I'll buy your assessment of the Doobie Brothers and Steve Miller completely. (Although Jungle Love, for some reason, hooks me.)
I will add U2 to the list. I haven't found a U2 song interesting since I Will Follow.

I loved "We're Not Gonna Take It," the rest of their music was simply boring.

8. Steve Miller, Boston, and post-Duane Allman Brothers. |
|
That last one will get me in trouble. I saw them in concert in the 80s. The audience was so bored they started throwing beach balls and frisbees and not watching. It was an all-day outdoor concert, and they were the one act that didn't get an encore. They milked one sound for far too long.
Steve Miller, yeah. My teenage rock fan daughter heard them the first time the other day--Jet Airliner, probably. When it started she was excited. Halfway through she said I could change it. I told her that was my opinion of them, too. She had the same reaction to Gary Wright with Dream Weaver, but he wasn't respected enough to be overrated.
Boston to me is like the Allmans. I can hear that they are talented, and some of what they do is brilliant, but they just sounded so monotonous, from one song to the next, as well as from the beginning to the end of the song. You get excited when they come on, but by the middle of the song you're reaching for Seek.

I do agree that their music has a certain "sameness" about it. That being said, there are only 2 or 3 albums from their classic period so they didn't really repeat themselves *that* much. Hell, their debut album recorded in Tom Sholz's basement plays like a greatest hits.

Their first album was great. But the second album was terrible, and they went downhill fast.

29. Well that's kind of not true now... |
|
That band is pure fire now with Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks playing guitar. Warren used to play Duanes parts when Dickie was in the band but now he play Dickies stuff while Derek more than ably does the Duane stuff. Easily the two best guitar players in any one band and for me these guys are two of the best ever.
They change their set lists now a lot more than in the past.

original form. My husband and I went to see Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd a few years back. I have to say it wasn't like it probably would've been if both were the original bands, but it still kicked some major ass. Plus we saw Little Milton in his last performance. Can't beat that.

31. My problem with threads like this |
|
is it's obviously just opinion. But for every "overrated" band you put up, you should be required to name one you think is great. That way we see where your taste lie.
BTW If you can listen to Zeppelin I & II and call them overrated, you are not a fan of Rock and/or Roll.

All they did was create the whole ethos that made indie music profitable.
Music wise, they really weren't too great.
Certainly not great enough to be dubbed the best rock band in America on the cover of Rolling Stone (back when it was a music mag)
