Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 04:12 PM by edhopper
Do you spread the P and J on separate slices or both on the same slice?

1. If you are making a sandwich with only a single peanut...
and jelly, you are going to have one seriously weird sandwich.

Not to mention it is rather difficult to "spread" a peanut.

4. Why yes
it is.
Look at the conflicts between Catholics and Protestants for instance.
Is it anything more than where they spread there PB>?

5. Well, now that you've fixed the OP subject line, it's not nearly as funny.
But I spread the PB and the Jelly on separate slices.

Now...here's a tip.

If you want to go REALLY out there, toast your bread.

Then, soon as you pull the bread out of the toaster, take your knife and carefully cut out the outer toasted layer of one side of each slice. In other words, insert the knife just so it breaks through the crust of the toasty part but not all the way through and cut out a square, just inside the crust. Then slide the knife under the square you cut and pull it up and away. Now you have a piece of toasted bread with a cavity, so to speak. Plonk on a shitload more PB or Jelly (or both, if you like) than you normally would, put it together and munch!

I have personally made a PB & J sandwich that weighed a 1/4 pound.

I'm not kidding.

It's best this way.

13. The unaccompanied person's guide to making a PB&J -
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 06:00 PM by Moondog
Spread your PB of choice onto a slice of bread.

Gently wipe the PB off the knife onto one side of the other slice of bread.

Spread J onto the top of the PB.

Gently wipe the J off the knife onto the other slice of bread, on the same side as the previous PB wipe.

Put the two pieces of bread together to make your sandwich. Now -

Rinse off the knife. If you use hot water, you will get the last visible bits of the PB and the J off of the knife, so that when you DO get around to actually washing it (it can take a week or two to accumulate enough dishes, glasses and silverware to make it worth running the dishwasher if you don't eat at home, by yourself, all that much), you won't have to chisel hardened, concrete-like PB off the knife. Yay!

On edit as a result of JTG of the PRB's post: I favor Jif Extra Crunch and either orange marmalade (the English stuff because it tends to be more tart, but Smucker's will do in a pinch) or strawberry preserves (Smucker's, most definitely).

16. Step 1: Get two slices of bread.
Step 2: Spread peanut butter (extra chunky, please!) onto one of aforementioned bread slices.

Step 3: Lick knife clean.

Step 4: Spread jelly (actually red raspberry preserves, but who's counting?) on other slide of bread.

Step 5: Lick knife clean again.

Step 6: Place PB slide atop J slice.

Step 7: Enjoy.

Don't worry, I live alone. I'm only sharing germs with myself. :P

28. My recommendation is close to yours:
Step 1: Get two slices of bread, or a toasted english muffin, or cinnamon-raisin bagel. Rye and pumpernickel breads don't work so well.

Step 2: Spread peanut butter (I like creamy) onto one of aforementioned bread slices (or muffin halves or whatever).

Step 3: Wipe knife clean on other slice (or whatever).

Step 4: Spread jelly (or jam or preserves, as you prefer) on other slice of bread (or, um... you know).

Step 5: Lick knife clean and drop in sink.

Step 6: Place PB slice, inverted, atop J slice, such that the top of both slices will be on the same side of the completed sandwich and both the PB and the J are on the INSIDE of the sandwich.

Step 7: Enjoy with ice cold skim milk.

17. The only way to make a PB & J according to some professional maker
(This comes from the owner of a Store that only serves PB & J... PB on both sides of the bread than jelly spread on one side and than sandwich in between to keep it from slipping out.

20. Spread butter on one slice of bread
Take a second slice, and spread butter on one side. Put the two butter sides together. Spread peanut butter on the outer side of one of the slices of bread. Take the slices apart. Put the butter side down in a hot buttered pan, with the peanut butter on top. Slice banana wheels (Make sure the bananas are very ripe, hate green bananas) onto the peanut butter. Spread peanut butter on the other slice. Place the peanut butter side down over the bananas, and flip sandwich over. Remove from pan when both sides are nice and brown. My very favorite sandwich ever. Nothing beats melting peanut butter.

22. The bread provides the necessary rough surface for an even spread...
therefore, PB on one slice, J on the other. Same applies to marshmallow fluff.

25. uh
peanut butter is for cookies and cheese crackers (or I suppose chocolate, but I prefer that version pre-made as a peanut butter cup)

Jam/preserves (and I am a real snob about quality - preferably homemade) go on GOOD bread or are just eaten with a spoon.
