that Owl City is just one guy. Just some young guy who made his first record at home. He came up with the name Owl City because he has insomnia quite a bit and finds himself awake in the middle of the night making music.

He's using it more craftily than most, but he's using it.
That might have something to do with the "fatigue factor". It reduces most of the sung note to the equivalent of a perfectly tuned sine wave.
