1. How would you know if they don't have souls?
That is a concept of the metaphysical, not the normal. And is the same claim of superiority that some people use about other people, and even some spiritual things say about some people.

And being a claim of superiority it would require complete knowledge or the claim of speaking for complete knowledge. Since it would require complete knowledge to know for sure.

Most don't make that claim.

7. How many times do you use something being in the bible to defend your arguements?
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 04:17 AM by RandomThoughts
The Bible also calls some people dogs, do you believe that? If you do then what is your view on tattoos, piercings, and circumcision? I don't think any of those things says much about someones heart.

The use of different animals in stories as representations of people is really old, it is not always done in a negative way, and has different metaphors.

9. The "dogs" mentioned in the Bible are not the 4-legged ones
They're two-legged dogs, which was ancient Israeli slang for pagans.

Snarl and act like dogs.
And some use animal representations to label other people in bad ways to break empathy.

And some use them to describe how some people think life is about just finding food and having offspring, and think anything goes if you get away with it. Law of the jungle, survival of the fittest, they all fit into ideas of people acting like animals.

It is a long topic, I don't feel like posting about. Goes into topics of traditions, circumcision, ideas of separating cultures back then, and ideas of how bad spirits can try and train people, and if people follow those patterns. It is also about ideas of better spirits wanting things to be orderly and more fair and equal.

Really, what does the word possession mean? Being owned not free. It is not that complicated, there are things that want to own people, and treat them like animals, part of pets delusion and livestock delusion.

And even some people are told they can own people also to get them to allow themselves to be owned.

It is a long topic, it would take a hours to express my views on it. But easiest to see by thinking of it as some spirits want to own people and hurt them because of sorrow and hate. And some have love and share that love, and want 'the world' to be like the fairness they have.

(note Disney used animal representations with respect and with dignity and not the bad ideas that are attached to that. If anything he was removing that concept or going against the bad concepts of ownership. Although there can be interpreted issues with how he made films. They were with better ideas. Nothing wrong with what Disney did in my view, because he was not labeling groups or attaching bad characteristics to break empathy.)

Spiders are OK; they get rid of other bugs.

Rush is a cockroach, a termite, and a gypsy moth. And a few nasty other insects.

16. Where?
Assuming that you can find the passage, are you a literalist in your understanding of the Bible? Even when I still held faith, I could have pointed to several passages that are demonstrably false. I had to come to an understanding beyond literal truth.

41. The bible is a book of stories.
No one knows where it came from. The Catholic Church has been researching it for years. And they even say it definitely shouldn't be taken literally, in fact, you should use it as a guidebook, like Aesop's Fables.
Animals bring us such joy. If they are not in heaven, I want no part of heaven. My dogs are my kids. If I don't see them in the afterlife, then I don't want to go.

our evolution did we humans acquire souls?

I have no proof of this, but I have faith that the first placental mammal, from which we and our mammalian household pets evolved, had a soul. So, I believe our fur kids have souls, just as we do. I can't speak for other household pets, like toads, snakes, snails, clams, crabs, worms and bugs, but maybe souls are more common in the animal kingdom than we think.

Edited to remove an r.

When I was a kid I asked my mother this question. She said that pets have a different heaven and hell from us. I don't know where she got that idea, but to a kid it sure sounded better than saying there was no H& H for our kittehs.

I'm in my 40's and still not sure of the answer to this question.

Sweet little dog that shows up in a number of medieval cathedrals.

Anyway, dogs don't have souls and don't go anywhere after death, just like humans.

were battling against several Dog Saints - dogs who were venerated as actual saints by regional people, some till the 19th century, some maybe after that.

See this article on Saint Guinefort of France:

He was a dog.

FWIW, I went to Catholic schools through HS, and for some reason don't trust their opinions on much of anything...

Those little creatures have learned unconditional love. THere is nothing like coming home at the end of a shitty day and having a dog waiting for you. They make you feel like you're the best person in the world and even though you've only been gone 8 hours, they greet you like they haven't seen you in a year and just love love love you. Nothing like it!

Secondly, hell is reserved for souls as well, so your argument is pointless.

"Hell, in Christian beliefs, is a place or a state in which the souls of the unsaved will suffer the consequences of sin."
