(Video) A Bajan Firefighter earns his pay - rescues motorist trapped by floodwater on car roof
Edited on Sat Oct-02-10 08:50 PM by JohnyCanuck
Just as an FYI, Bajan is a slang name used throughout the English speaking Caribbean for people from the island of Barbados (used sort of like the appellation Cajuns for the creole residents of Louisiana). In this video a young woman is trapped on top of her car when she was caught in a recent flash flood and the car was swept off the road. Fortunately she was able to climb onto the roof and keep from being carried away by hanging onto some overhanging tree branches or vines. A local firefighter from the Barbados Fire Service plunged into the fast moving floodwater and swam over to her car, climbed onto the roof with the victim and helped her into an inner tube in which she was pulled to safety by firefighters on the shore. The video shows the firefighter sitting on the car roof and helping the young woman into the inner tube and making sure everything was securely tied off before launching her into the water and she gets pulled to safety.
