I live in the Pacific NW and it's fairly common around here. There's another kind I like at Costco but can't remember what it's called.

7. I've only seen a few natural brands around here...some friends have told
me that they have tried them, and there was a bunch of oil on top when they opened the can...perhaps you have to stir the stuff first? I don't frigging know...everything is so different now

I tried some organic stuff a while back ( for the life of me, I can't remember the brands name ) and it was completely tasteless ) It might have been Amys? Anyway, I'll try and look for that brand

I'm a peanut butter ( and cheese ) fanatic, so I will try just about anything

17. Yeah, it comes with oil on top
which I find really gross, so I pour it out and use it to cook later. Then sometimes when you get to the end of the jar it's dry. It wouldn't be if I mixed the oil back in.

Anyway, I only eat it on sandwiches if there's something sweet too, like jam, or I use it to bake desserts, so I don't miss the added sugar or salt of other brands at all.

Have you ever tried making your own? Sometimes I make my own Nutella.

5. Any brand of all-natural, unsalted, smooth or chunky for me, thanks.
All of the major brands like Jif and Skippy are a bunch of de-fatted peanut flour with all kinds of absolute total shit added to it to reconstitute it into something which is barely fit for human consumption. I had some recently in a pinch and it was about as good as the plastic jar it came in. Never again.

41. Here, too.
Store brands are just fine. I also like Smart Balance. None of the crap that Skippy and the others have in them, or all that sugar. They add omega fatty acids to it.

I'm not big on sweetened peanut butter. The exception is the honey-roasted peanut butter nuttyguys.com sells. Yummy in the tummy! I wish they'd make a plain peanut butter...

http://www.bristolamishmarket.com/

Dude...if you're ever in the area check this place out...seriously. They moved their location a little over a year ago, but since they did that the place is fucking BOOMING. They have Amish woodcrafts here as well...if only I was rich.

They sell these pretzel-dogs ( or sausages ) that are encased in cheese...eat one and get sexually excited about it...I fucking shit you not. A toasted, salted pretzel wrapped around a sausage link surrounded by cheddar cheese...yeah, you're thinking about that now, aren't you?

Oh god, fuck yeah!!! Let me know if you find yourself around here, perhaps we could meet up!

71. We're either shopping at the Reading Terminal Fair Food stand
Or we get our produce from a CSA that we host. Wimer Organics. http://www.wimersorganics.com/

They have the best yogurt we've ever tasted plus great looking produce.

Almost all our meat comes from Fork's Farm from up near State College. They deliver to the Philly area once a month - http://www.forksfarmmarket.com/

Great eggs, chickens, pastured pork and they have a friend who goes up to Alaska and line catches salmon, quick freezes them and brings them back. I hate frozen fish, but these are amazing.

And we do the Farm to City thing - Mrs GoS occasionally manages markets for them - http://www.farmtocity.org/News.asp

And up near Newtown there's a really good market just off of I-95 - called Shady Brook Farm.

And if you have a jones for Trader Joe's stuff, there is one at:

1460 Bethlehem Pike
North Wales, PA 19454-2159
(215) 646-5870 - that's 33 mins from Bristol

And there's also one at:

3528 US Highway 1
Princeton, NJ 08540-5924
(609) 897-0581 - That's 24 mins from Bristol

And if you come into town you definitely have to try Café Estelle on North 4th Street between Spring Garden and Callowhill. They make their own bacon which is incredible. Had brunch there the other week - pistachio and fresh fig pancakes with their house made sausage.
Like having your tongue throw a party for your mouth.

74. No Trader Joes!
When they first opened here I only went occasionally because I ended up buying so many extra items. Now, after a couple of years several of their items have become staples in my diet. They have really good quality control at a fair price.

I'm not a fan of too may of their prepared fresh/frozen meats with sauces because I think they have a heavy hand on spices but they definitely have some items that a worth a once a month trip if you only live 25 minutes away.

Cheeses are a true bargain. Check the prices at your local supermarket's deli and you will see the difference.

Cereals are a great bargain. Mostly on the healthy side but quality/crunchiness is great.

Frozen fish (without sauces is my recommendation, sauces are over done IMO) I like the Panko breaded Talipia and Breaded Halibut. Both are real fish with a nice breading that browns nicely in the oven. I haven't eaten breaded fish in 15 years until these two but they seem like true fillets not mush and are a 20 minute dinner with mashed potatoes and a vegetable.

Frozen Mushroom Risotto is very good.

Several frozen vegetables are good: asparagus, spinach and stir-fry hodgepodge come to mind.

Panna Cotta with blueberry and peach topping is a great dessert that looks special but only about $1.50 a serving which is really not much more than any other dessert you might serve.

11. Smucker's Natural Chunky
I don't have to go some place special to get it.

It's just peanuts and a little salt. No hydrogenated oil or other BS.

And, yes you do have to stir it up when you first open a jar, but it stays pretty well blended after that unless you leave it sitting for a long time.

20. the great thing is, a really good sized jar is about $6 -
a lot less than I would have expected for almond butter. Some things at CostCo are a rip off - no better pricing at all, just bulk - but there are some very good buys on honey, almond butter, cat food (dry), cat litter, vegetables ... and they have a good roasted pine-nut hummus, too.

Anyway. Give it a try if you can -- or get someone to send you some! :hi:

I hate Jif and Skippy b/c they taste like peanuts, NOT peanut butter.

Peter Pan has way too much sugar in it.

Generic smooth. Cashew butter is yummy; however here in East Shitholia, they don't sell it. I have a choice of HEB, Kroger or WallyWorld. No health food stores.

yes, you have to stir it up because it doesn't have the artificial whatever that keeps the oil from separating from the peanut butter, but it doesn't have sugar or HFCS & doesn't taste like plastic.

It wasn't that long ago I had it for the first time, and I wasn't sure what to expect

You ever put this stuff on toast? It's great

72. Peanut butter is only gross if you're French!
Nutella is sublime -

And if you don't mind paying double you can buy the Italian recipe at some Italian deli's.

It's not as sweet and more hazelnut-ty.

75. I was sorta kidding but the stuff is truly good...although stirring the oil up ...
..in the peanut butter can be a pain in the ass. (I use an electric drill and a piece of coat hanger...really!) :)

64. I worked in a health food store. There would be huge buckets of natural peanut butter and
and a huge stirring paddle to mix the oil in with the peanuts because they separated easily. It was a tough job but someone had to do it. Good peanut butter too.

66. Of course, there is Nutella -
Hazelnut butter, mixed with chocolate, all in a spreadable concoction that is truly unique.

It was a big deal in Europe, back in the day, and it is making inroads here too.

Still, Jif Extra Crunch is my first choice ....

69. According to Consumer Reports
If you can limit your consumption to a dollop (and if you aren’t allergic, of course), peanut butter can be a healthful snack, providing protein, vitamin E, niacin, and fiber. But ounce for ounce, it’s also high in calories (about 200 per 2-tablespoon serving) and fat (about 16 grams per serving for full-fat brands). So if you’re going to indulge, choose a product that’s worth eating.

What we found

The best from our trained tasters’ tests of 11 creamy peanut butters were the excellent Smucker’s Natural, sold east of Denver, and Smucker’s Organic, sold nationally. Unlike most of the rest, they have no added sweeteners or oils. Six other products were very good overall.

Among reduced-fat peanut butters, Smucker’s rated very good; the others we tried, Skippy and Jif, were less tasty. Still, you might tempt youngsters to try a better-for-you butter: Many of the 34 children and teenagers in a separate test we conducted said that reduced-fat Skippy and Jif were tasty.

You’ll need to stir the three Smucker’s products and the Smart Balance. We tested two gadgets that stir: Grandpa Witmer’s Old Fashioned Peanut Butter Mixer models 100 and 200. They met their claims—they were easy to use and to clean, and didn’t splash peanut oil—but the 10 panelists who tried them said they wouldn’t spend $10 for a peanut-butter stirrer.

Bottom line

For the best taste, try Smucker’s Natural or Smucker’s Organic. To cut back on fat (but not necessarily calories), try Smucker’s Reduced Fat. If you don’t like to stir before serving and like a sweeter butter, choose Peter Pan, a CR Best Buy. If sodium is a concern, try Smucker’s Organic or Simply Jif, which cut sodium by at least half, to 50 mg and 65 mg per serving, respectively.

70. I buy Smart Balance right now
I like the tast and the added benefits are a plus.

If I didn't have to watch calories it would be Peter Pan or Reese's. Because they have too much sugar, LOL!

76. I think it was Laura Scudder's.
Haven't had it in years.

You had to stir it cuz the butter and the oil would separate.

Goddam tasty shit.

80. Naturally More
It's all natural!
Made with Flax Seeds, Flax Oil and Wheat Germ.

The taste is awesome. Flax Seeds add a little crunch. It contains Omega-3 & Omega-6, low in sugar, high in dietary fiber. :9
