A new sport: Naked Show Jumping. |
|
This video was recorded during a Show Jumping in Bourg-en-Bresse, France. The show was supposed to be a costumed show, but rider D. Ribot did not have a costume ready. He informed the jury about that, and they told him (as a joke) that he should just compete naked. Which he ultimately did...He rides well, but...OUCH. Nobody there seems too concerned about it, though. In the U.S., he'd be arrested. http://www.barnmice.com/video/naked-show-jumping?xg_source=activity

that he rides high and tight as a normal thing. So to speak. In a generous and charitable kind of way.
If he didn't, well, he'd be bouncing up and down on himself. It's bad enough when you sit on yourself, you know?
Well, he probably doesn't. Know that is. Which is why he can do this.

2. While I have no way of knowing, |
|
being female, I'd guess just the idea, let alone the reality, of sitting on a horse's spine, right behind those prominent, bony withers, naked, might make most likely to ride higher and tighter than usual.
He certainly made his point to the judges. :D

Frankly, I'm surprised that he can actually draw breath after the first couple of jumps.

5. I don't think the French have caught up to us when it comes to |
|
the many helpful uses of duct tape. They prefer "freedom." At least, "freedom" has somehow come to be associated with the French in the last decade or so.

The first thing I thought of when you mentioned the French & freedom was "freedom tape".
Damn, I'm glad those days are over, but I'll be damned if those "freedom patriots" weren't replaced by (seriously & pathetically misguided) tea party idiots.

8. Weird - everyone says riding bareback is better, but that looks painful |
|
The dude appears to be pretty fit though, so it's not the horror show it could have been (say, if I did something like that). I guess that sort of activity is a pretty good core workout...

9. It would have to be a good core workout. |
|
I grew up riding bareback, but don't any more; My own equilibrium and physical fitness isn't up to it, and saddles distribute heavier adult weights across the horse's back better.
You do use every muscle you can think of, and many you don't know about, to ride clothed in a saddle, especially for more athletic riding, like jumping. Bareback? Even more so.
I'm sure the audience, the judges, and his competitors appreciated the skill that took.

11. I've never ridden a horse (except maybe at camp as a kid) so once the novelty of the video |
|
wore off it was pretty interesting to see how much work the rider was really doing. It always looks like they're just sitting there, or just holding on, but obviously not...

12. Abs, back, thighs...all are working to stay balanced and to move with the horse. |
|
It is the movement of the rider that cues the horse, more than the reins.
Getting beyond the humor, he does a great job of doing all of that while not crushing his equipment.

1. He's an incredibly good rider. 2. His butt is adorable. (I'm speaking of the rider.) 3. I've never watched an equestrian event before where I couldn't take my eyes off the horse's withers.

As a life-long quarter horse rider, I'm usually watching the horse's butt, too. I tend to judge horses by hindquarters, legs, and feet. Not this time. ;)
