Any suggestions for Halloween costumes? My husband and I
will be attending a day time family party given by his boss that includes hay rides and carving pumpkins with kids. Overtly political costumes are probably not a good idea.

1. Dress as each other. One of the neighborhood couples did that one year and it was a riot.

3. Yes. Curiously, most of the long-time residents ARE long-time couples.

This is the first place I've lived where that was the case.

On Edit:

I've been with my wife since '84 and married to her since '87. One year we went to a party as "Mistress (her name), the very, very bad witch and her naughty pet". She created a REALLY naughty costume including black fishnet stockings and a black leather micro-mini skirt and I wore green silk bedroom boxer shorts, a leather vest with no shirt, a leather biker hat, cowboy boots, and wore a studded dog collar - which she had me on by a leash. The funny part is just how many people couldn't tell if we were in costume or not. Silly them. Of COURSE we weren't in costumes.

Oh, it was about 10 degrees outside that night and I had a serious case of bronchitis that began the day after. Think they might have been related?

4. He can bea tablefor two and you can be the waitress.
We did this before. His head is the centerpeice (fruits flowers etc hat and neckware) through a square of stiff card board draped with a table cloth. Plastic plates and silver glued down. You are a waitress complete with apron and pad.

It is great fun having people place their drinks and snacks on the table and hang out.

Of course you can switch to waiter and table.

May not be appropriate for hay ride.

5. One of the easiest costumes
I ever wore was pajamas and slippers. Threw a couple of rollers in my hair, dark makeup circles under my eyes, carried a teddy bear and, voila, I was an insomniac. Bonus: very comfortable.

6. Face paint combined with regular clothes
is always easy and comfortable. Clowns, pumpkins, kitty cats (or dogs) are easy to paint. Or just paint on a black mask.

7. A couple of friends of mine
dressed as the Fruit of the Loom grapes one year. One was purple and the other green, using balloons attached to long underwear they died the same color. It was hysterical when they got out on the dance floor after a few drinks (or so) and started popping each others balloons.

Or you could both go dressed as children.

8. A pair of dice
My sister made a 'a set' for my daughter and her same age-cousin when they were kids. Prepare to not be able to sit though... unless you are inventive enough to make it a bit more cushy then my sister's cardboard creation.

If this were not a family event, I'd have MANY more inventive ideas. ;-) Nonetheless, whatever you do, I hope you have tons of fun!!! :bounce:

9. Do you have boots or running shoes that are black? Cause you could
get a heart shaped red balloon and put black felt dots on it. Attach it to your back. Wear a black turtleneck and black leggings and be a ladybug.

10. Friends of mine went as killer bees
both had yellow/black striped tops and were armed with fake guns/knives.

If you google "halloween killer bees", you can find some images of people who did the same.

12. I went to a party once as Little Red Riding Hood,
other guests looking at my man in his jeans with a shrug, got this response: "I don't have to dress up to be the big bad wolf!"

How about Rocky and Bullwinkle?
