Laser printer toner cartridges: where do you buy yours?
It looks like the toner cartridges on my Brother laser printer have finally been emptied. Anybody have any suggestions for reputable, yet inexpensive dealers for replacements?

1. Fix yourself up with a Gutenberg press and ride out this whole "digital" fad
You won't be sorry.

2. I used to go to the recycling cartridge shop in the mall. Called "Island Ink Jet" in
Montreal. Saved a ton of money on ink.

3. SuppliesOutlet.com
http://www.suppliesoutlet.com/

I have a Samsung CLP-500 Color Laser printer. Supplies Outlet's price for a full set of four compatible cartridges: $159

The cost to buy the full set of Samsung brand cartridges: Around $400+

I have been using these without incident, same quality, for the last six months...and I print daily...so I am comfortable recommending them to you.

5. OfficeMax.com - They send me a lot of coupons.
I usually lump together purchases so I can get the $30 off on an order of $150 or more. A toner cartridge makes up close to half of that. Any order over $50 has free shipping so I save time and gas that way as well.

7. They don't exclude toner from their coupons?
Office Depot tends to exclude "technology" products from their coupons, so you can't use 'em for toner there, in my experience.

8. No. I even got the discount when I ordered a printer.

I know the 20% off brown shopping bag (twice a year thing) excludes printers, computers, and monitors, but I've stuffed USB hubs, routers, cables, thumb drives, hard drives, and a lot of other things in there and they let me just fill the cart with whatever I need - including boxes (10 reams) of paper - and give me the discount on all of it. The regular prices are already lower than the other office stores, but if you play the discounts you can REALLY make out well!

On Edit: I only get the original HP ink and toner. The "refills" are a gamble that just isn't worth taking. Some people have good luck with them, but others don't. I rely on the machines too heavily to take the risk. It isn't worth a few bucks in savings if it costs me more in time because something fucks up on me at a critical moment.

6. Amazon.com tends to have the best price for the real thing, IMO
I avoid the 3rd party knock-offs, but Amazon seems to have the best price for genuine Brother toners... sometimes they even "Gold Box" them for added savings.

You can go to camelcamelcamel.com and enter the ASIN number with your e-mail, and they'll send you an alert when the Amazon price drops below a price you specify.

9. First, check for a reputable local recycler.
I have a local place that refills and reconditions laser cartridges, and I've used them exclusively for 10+ years. The price is only a buck or two higher, the quality is flawless, and I'm supporting a small local business instead of a chain or megastore.

If you have one nearby, it's worth the time to at least check them out.
