23. Why? She's just a working stiff earning a living in a tough economy.
or a fictional representation of one.

27. Fictional and a bit insulting...and she's a very well paid actress ..
Most of the actors I've known would donate a kidney for a national television campaign role, repeated incessantly , even if it just paid scale.
Her presentation is weird and dumbass and clueless and it grates on me. I've known a lot of "working stiffs" and I've never met anyone who rubbed me so thoroughly the wrong way as Flo does. Blah blah pop-eyed inane blah blah.
The commercial setup annoys me too.
Of course I'm operating from pure personal prejudices/taste, etc, but Flo strikes me as the kind of person who couldn't take the hint to STOP TRYING to TALK to ME!

Of course, it doesn't help that you can't sit through an hour of television without running into one of the ads.
It's called overexposure.

The gecko is another story entirely. I love the gecko.

31. I can't take the hint either, so I'm going to keep trying to talk to you.

See, I don't mind Flo, but the Gecko bothers me. Flo's annoying style at least is crafted to present actual information--not much, but some. The Gecko is just a diversion meant to be cute and build a warm fuzzy with the company while pretty much preventing you from looking closer at the facts. That style always grates on me.

So yeah, we each have our own peeves and prejudices that affect the way we see things. Which is exactly why Geiko has three major styles of campaign running, I guess. Smart folk. :)

33. Oh, you can talk to me anytime, jobycom!
I agree that the peeves we come up with are varied indeed.
I guess my forgiveness of the gecko's non-specific cuteness also stems from my suspicion that individual insurance packages are so dependent on a gazillion variables that Flo ain't really telling us anything in terms of actual numbers that we can use in our own individual cases. Those boards with "comparables" don't convince me.
I'm also an old advertising copywriter (and getting older by the minute) and I'm really impressed with the Richmond VA company that came up with all those clever Geiko campaigns.
A Richmond ad agency! Must make big shot New York ad men squirm with envy. (I speak as a Philadelphia ad woman.)
Apparently they tested the three original campaigns and found that men loved the cave men, women loved the gecko, and older folks loved the celebrity assisted horror stories.
(Joan Rivers, etc., speaking for real people.) They don't seem to be running anything but the lizard anymore. Probably costs the least to produce.
Cheers.

3. I call her Shred Head.
Can't believe she was attacked by a razor and got her hair shredded.

All this time I thought Progressive Flo was what women got once a month.

In the original film, from which the show is based, Ms. Ladd portrayed the character "Flo".

20. heh heh - I went to seminary with that Flo!
Sort of - she was in my Old Testament class with Phyllis Trible back in the early 90s. She wasn't truly a seminary student, but she did take some classes there just because she was interested. Had the pleasure of sitting down to coffee with her one day in the seminary coffee shop. Hilarious as well as enlightening - fake southern accent aside, she's actually quite intelligent, and took classes in the associate ivy league colleges just to keep her brain chops going.

Really nice person, much like her Alice (I think that was the show's name) persona.

a comedic actress. A pretty good one. And "Flo" is her paying gig. So give her a break already.

25. Stephanie Courtney is a very good actor - she has been in almost 40
movies and TV shows, and is a frequent stage performer.

And she looks very different as herself.

9. I do not like Flo. I do not want to look like her.
I'd rather look like me than like her, so you know how intensely I don't like the way she looks. Or anything else about her or those stupid, irritating ads.

18. I'm relieved to know I'm not alone.
Something about her or that character has an inexplicably huge ick factor for me - so much so that when the commercial comes on, it's not enough to ignore it, I want to just shut the tv off.

19. I would marry Flo, and/or her real life persona, in a New York minute.
Hot hot hot in that wonderfully geeky "could actually have a conversation with her unlike a SI Swimsuit model who's just a set of fake boobs with a vagina willing to open itself to anything with a $5 bill"

Gimme one Flo for any hundred of vomitous, disgusting, fake women who end up in SI.

And seriously, why do we even give SI models any credit? The average SI reader is the dumbest person on earth.
