Funeral etiquette question........
One of my best friends lost his grandmother over the weekend and the funeral is on Thu eve. I'd like to attend, but it is over an hour away from here and I have a big exam on Fri AM. Would it be a faux-pas to forgo the funeral so I can study more for the exam?

1. Study.
Unless you were a very, very good friend with your best friend's grandmother. If not, I don't see any reason to attend the funeral.

2. No. A friend's parent, a faux pas. Grandparent, no. Though a handwritten note would
be a really good idea.

4. I agree.
Just make sure your friend gets the note no more than a day after the funeral.

I just got off the phone w/ my friend and he was disappointed but understanding. I like the note idea and will get on that.

7. Studies generally come first unless it is close family (including grandparents, aunts, uncles).
Explain in advance and send a sympathy card. Good luck on the test!

9. I was shocked when a friend drove in for my mom's funeral
And that was my mother. I'd never expect friends to drive long distances for my grandparent.

10. Send a card or, better, a hand-written note of sympathy.
