I have no idea why, but I did it tonight.

1. Maybe it's just scared. Stroke it gently, and speak to it in a calm soothing voice,
and it might relax and start responding again.

Alternatively, perhaps the battery got jiggled loose?

6. didn't know that... thanks for the info! I do know that optical USB mice
are about 3 bucks at Goodwill - I go through them pretty fast because I move my computer around a lot (don't ask) and the cord gets tired/damaged as a result.

Every optical mouse I've had involved batteries and significant cost, neither of which I'm interested in dealing with, so I go to Goodwill whenever my mouse expires. : )

I'm sorry you lost your mouse - have you tried it again since? Sometimes they come back to life...
