Any suggestions for hosting a very special visitor? |
|
The local community college is doing The Laramie Project. Naturally, Fred Phelps is coming to spread his message of love, joy and tolerance.
He'll be here on October 22 fairly early in the morning. So...I think I should go greet the nice gentleman and welcome him to my town...while giving him a map of how to get from CdA back to Topeka and letting him know we're on to him.
My thought was to dress up as a "fag" because he's positive this town is "fag-infested," and carry a sign that says "WBC LOVES FAGS." It's obvious they DO, because only by bashing whatever-in-fuck a "fag" is are they able to avoid having to go out and get real jobs. So let me see...what exactly does a "fag" wear? I know what a homosexual wears--the ones I know don't wear anything unusual. Blue jeans, t-shirts, Chucks...you know, just regular clothes like heterosexuals buy. But these "fags," whatever in hell they are, are quite the mystery to me.

3. No, no, we're trying to avoid that |
|
The Phelps clan make approx. 100 percent of their income through lawsuits, and throwing dogshit at him is actionable as assault. He fucking needs it, but we can't do it--and we at the paper are working VERY hard to discourage people from going over there and doing anything he could later sue for. But telling him to leave town would be okay.
I'm thinking a "fag" wears a pink shirt, black knee-length shorts over rainbow knee-his, gold lame shoelaces and really huge dangly earrings. Sound about right?

4. If you have a bunch of friends and want to be somewhat low-key |
|
(low-key of course being relative) you could make signs and tell the world about some of the other things that the Bible says.
You know, about not eating shrimp and pork, and women being unclean, and castrated men not being welcome in the company of the lord, and the prohibition against masturbation, and usury being a sin, and about the biblical prohibition on wearing blended fabrics.
Then put yourselves a ways down the road and stage a counter-protest.

15. I love those kinds of counter protests |
|
that show how absolutely absurd it is to cherry pick absolute laws out of the supposedly "infallible word of god" from a book written piece-meal by bronze-age scribes.
It really shows how absurd it is to take the bible seriously as anything more than just ancient literature.

I was thinking something like "God Loves CDA: Fred Doesn't Live Here" or something like that...

god that apparently loves haters and bullies and pits his kids against each other for his own amusement? Seems to say a lot about "Daddy issues" of the worshipper, doesn't it?

9. The Brits refer to cigarettes as "fags." |
|
So dress in white, wear an ash-colored hat and modify the hat so you can somehow create smoke coming out of the top of the hat.

to protest in front of a high school as it was opening for the day and through the afternoon, we decided not to give them the attention and conflict they are always seeking.
Instead a large group of us went over to the school with brooms and symbolically swept the sidewalks free of their hate and filth while letting the students know they had nothing to fear from such fanatical thought and fear mongering. They students really appreciated our presence after a long, intense day and the fact that we had not added to the controversy, but merely brought a peaceful presence.
Fred and his flock hate to be ignored, so really it's the best tactic overall.

Sometimes I think quiet support (with large numbers) makes a bigger statement. A show of being above their hate. Love it!

Those kids wouldn't have been influenced by two groups standing there yelling at each other. We've always tried to make peaceful statements.

18. They went to my son's college when the university put on "The Laramie Project:" |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-10-10 11:58 PM by kimi
It was a subject near and dear to my boy's heart, cause we come from Wyoming, and the whole Matthew Shepard tragedy - even though it happened when we were overseas - was a complete shock and horror to us. The university explained to those who planned to protest that the Phelps folks do indeed get their bread and butter from lawsuits, so no overt insults should be lobbed at them. And so, none were. These people depend on insults to get the funding for THEIR insults. Disgusting, but there ya go. Typical of those types. Edit for grammar (yikes)
