1. Me
I think the Yankees represent all that is evil in baseball. They are the robber-barons of the sport. I root for whomever is playing the Yankees.

3. I am dead-set convinced that last year's world series was fixed.
I mean really the Angels should have won and they couldve honored Nick Adenhart the proper way, but instead a truly evil fuck (Steinbrenner) was the one who was honored.

4. There is no baseball team I'd rather see lose.
And as a White Sox fan, I'm expected to rejoice when the Cubs lose. I do, a little bit, on the inside.

But those damn Yankees? LOVE to see 'em lose.

5. The Yankees are like the Republicans of baseball.
Always buying their way to victory, crushing the little guy, and the epitome of everything that is evil in the corporate world.

Baseball isn't fun to watch anymore because of the Yankees.

23. What is interesting
is they actually spend the money on their employees. Meanwhile teams like the Marlins just pocket the revenue.

11. Nope. If they earn the spot, they earned it. I can't be pissed at someone for being good.
Playoffs should be merit-based, not need-based. If the Yankees are the best team every year, put them in every year. If they aren't, leave them out. I don't get worked up over someone being good repeatedly. That's like saying FDR should have only served two terms so someone else would have a chance to fuck up what he was doing well.

18. Now, if you had said PAY-based, I'd agree, but...
being able to buy something isn't too "merit" based...

30. They don't sell those points during the games.
You have to score them.

If you are arguing that the current MLB system allows some teams to recruit the best players by paying them more, okay, you have a popular, but in my opinion weak, point there, but that's the fault of the system, not the Yankees.

If it were just about money, the Rangers and Braves would have dominated MLB over the last decade. I think now the richest owner is the Nationals guy.

12. Yes.
All I'm asking for is at least four consecutive years without a playoff appearance. Give some of the others half a chance. That's not too much to ask, is it?

13. Baseball is a lot more competitive than it used to be
Between 1927 and 1962 - a span of 35 years - the Yankees won the World Series, I think, 20 times. and, that was when there were no playoffs - just the AL regular season champs and the NL regular season champs playing each other after the regular season was over.

Over the last 50 years, the Yankees have won just nine World Series titles (that includes '61 and '62, which are counted twice)

24. "Just 9"?
That would still be close to 20% of the titles during that period.

By the way, the '60 and '64 World Series were two of the greatest, and both involved the Yankees losing--

First was losing to Bill Mazeroski's dramatic home run in the 9th inning of the 7th game in '60, after really beating up on the Pirates for 3 of the previous 6 games.

Second was the '64 series against the Cardinals. The Cardinals had come from out of nowhere in August to clinch the National League title, then stuck it to the Yankees in the series.

26. In the 50 years prior to 1960, the Yankees won 18 titles
Edited on Tue Oct-12-10 07:56 AM by Art_from_Ark
1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958.
So their winning percentage was 36%. Certainly the '50s were the most boring decade in Major League Baseball, since the Yankees (and other New York teams) nearly completely dominated the decade. The Yankees probably appeared in 50% of the World Series during that period, though.

27. You can make it 39 years
1923 to 1962 and come up with 20 titles by adding in 1961 and 1962 and you're up to 51% Those years are normally considered the "golden years" of baseball. Prior to the mid 20s was the "dead ball" era - baseball really didn't take off until the mid 20s as the so-called National Pasttime.

By comparison, the last 39 years have had "only" nine titles by the Yankees - or 23%

29. Maybe New York sportswriters considered that the "golden age"
but it is hard to think of it as that as a real "Golden Age" considering that, with the notable exception of the St. Louis Cardinals, New York teams won nearly every World Series during that period.

16. One of the big reasons why I quit watching baseball
I mean who gives a fuck when it's the same teams over and over?
ESPN always has the Yankees or Redsox (or Cubs) as their national games.
Football realized a long time ago that for the health of the league, they needed healthy competition, not a few dominating.

17. This Red Sox fan says no, but here's why.
The Yankees make the playoffs one way or another almost every year. Rewind to 1995, and look forward to now. The Yankees have made the post season every single year (except 2008, I think). 15 years of solid, post season hopefulness. They've won the Series 5 times. 33% success rate. Not bad. But, if you think about it, 10 years they failed. That's a LOT of disappointment, anger, angst, wringing of hands, prayers unanswered...for those poor, poor Yankees and their fans. Especially with the money they spend. It's like buying a million dollar car and getting lapped by a Corvette. Like buying a $10k tennis bracelet and a $15k Rolex for the wife, and she leaves you to fuck the butler.

The tears of the Yankees and their fans water my lawn.
