Best final line for any character in fiction (movies, TV, etc.)?
I submit Severus Snape's "Look... at... me." Granted, the next chapter is largely flashbacks involving his memories, so he has many more lines in the book, but his last line in the story chronologically is the above. And you?

28. If you mean dying words, then I give you (either) Khan or Captain Ahab
"To the last, I will grapple with thee... from Hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee!" (Not exactly Ahab's last words, but close enough).

If you just mean the final words spoken by a character in fiction, then I give you Jake Barnes: It sure is pretty to think so.

31. Not my view.
Edited on Thu Oct-14-10 02:42 PM by RandomThoughts
To the last, I will Grapple with thee, from any heart I hug at you, for Loves sake I breathe my every breath at thee!

Sounds better, although not the last in my view.

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore, I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my hypos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off - then, I account it high time to get to sea as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the ship. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same feelings towards the ocean with me.

39. Last Stanza in "A River Runs Through It"
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.
I am haunted by waters.
