One of my bunnies has died
I knew this day was coming, just never wanted to confront it. Well, it's happened. Problem is, sad as it is, and I'm crying, she lived with another bunny, another old lady bunny, and I worry very much about that old girl now. I figure if I move this old girl into the kitchen with constant company and all, it will keep her occupied and keep her mind off the loss of her friend.

I don't know what else to do. This comes on the heels of the loss of a family friend who committed suicide recently, so the pain and suffering are at a high tide right now.

Lots of pain and tears right now. Any suggestions and vibes would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Oh, Kimi...
I'm sorry you're going through these losses. I've never had a rabbit, so I can't offer wisdom. Just hugs.

Safe passage to your sweet girl and comfort to you.

2. Thanks, I appreciate it
Lots of emotion and pain these past few days.

I just worry about my little old lady bunny who's left on her own now. She and the other who's now departed would snuggle together all the time, and I may be projecting, but I feel that she'll miss that. I sure would.

I'll do what I can for her. I do the best for my pets, they give me a lot of joy and I always feel that I never do enough for them.

5. Get the little old lady bunny
a new young bunny. Might just make her feel young again and take away the loneliness. :hi:

6. I have only warm vibes for you
and I wish I could comfort you in person. Cry it out, kimi, without shame. Grieve without courage. And love your remaining old lady bunny. She will know that you're taking extra special care of her.

9. I'm sorry.
I'm a kitty person but I also have a bunny (someone dumped him in or near our yard) and he is a sweetie. Bunnies are adorable.

I know there are many, many bunnies that need homes. Could you adopt another?

10. I'm so sorry
I'm sure the "old lady" bunny would benefit by being close to others - even if they're not her best bunny friend.

My best to you and your family.

12. I'm sorry you have to face this; our animals are part of our lives.
Would your old lady bunny lie to snuggle with a soft toy? Maybe one of those hot water bottles made for little kids?

13. Good ideas here
Thanks all. And for the words of comfort too. I appreciate them a lot.

I'd get another bunny but we're moving in the not-too-distant future and what with six, maybe seven, cats (haven't decided whether or not to move the outdoor feral) it would be another stress to move another bunny too. I do have 2 other boy bunnies but kept them separate from the girls. But the stuffed animal is a good idea.

Leaving soon to head to the pet crematory. I've gone there too many times over the years :( for cats, pets and feral, and other bunnies. Ah well, it's part of living with them, I know. Just hurts.

14. I'm sorry, kimi.
Did she die at home, so the other bunny has a sense of what happened?
I showed our dog our old cat's body when she died; a Border Collie needs to know where her "herd" is. She used to 'air nip' and nudge the cat's hind end- the cat never told her not to in strong enough terms, and our admonishments had no apparent effect.

I think being in the kitchen would help unless she's a free-range bunny, in which case she might get tripped over, or stepped on.

If she's not too old for toys, here's website with a list of rabbit toys, homemade and available @ stores.

15. Thank you for that link
I went ahead and joined the forum there and posted a question about my old girl. It's a neat site, I appreciate being directed to it.

Yes, they were together when the one died, so I'm guessing she senses what happened, but I don't know. The one who's left has been eating and that made me feel better, and I'll move her upstairs tonight and let her out of her hutch to hop around, she always seems to enjoy that, and the cats have never bothered the bunnies except to occasionally lick them.
