Question: What was your kid doing at 20 months old? |
|
He's expanding his horizons now:
He loves Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars He loves to draw just about everywhere (We've taught him to color on the paper now) Loves Mickey Mouse (has since he was an infant) - so watches it religiously Eats just about anything - he's a picky eater at times, but will eat pasta like there's no tomorrow Cookies are a must snack for him (we don't give him too many - his mom and uncle were very obese (and still are) at a young age so we're trying to avoid that) Loves to play outside and explore
Bad things he still hangs on to: Pacifier - he still loves them and will clamp down if he wants it Insists on being picked up to another room just a few feet away (sometimes) He'll whine about going to bed so we're letting him stay up until 8:30pm or Mickey's finished, whatever comes first He'll cry when he's dropped off at school for about 1 minute then calms down and play (toddler school)

At 20 months, my daughter was still on the bottle and the Binkie.
One morning after a long discussion the night before, my ex-wife and I took a pair of scissors and cut off the very end of the nipple on my daughter's bottle. In fact, we cut ALL the nipples we had, AND all the Binkies.
When she woke up the morning after we cut them, and put the bottle in her mouth, there was instant displeasure. We went through every nipple in the drawer where they were kept (she knew where it was) and after a short while convinced her that they were all "broken" and that there was nothing we could do to fix them. The Binkie thing didn't take much longer than that.
Problem solved. One day.

2. Poking me in the eyes so I'd wake up and play. |
|
My wife went to school in the day and I worked at night. That solved the day care problem but I'll confess I can't even tell you how many times I fell asleep reading to my kids or playing with them.
Fortunately we all survived.

we told my son for weeks before his 2nd birthday that "2 year olds didn't have pacies..." he got up that morning and threw it in the trash - a big production! Though when it was time for bed that night he did ask for it and we reminded him that he was "two now and didn't need a pacie anymore..." Oh - and he got a "big boy bed" that day, too - a toddler bed instead of the crib - so there was that excitement at bedtime, too.
Oh - yeah - he was also doing differential calculus!
just kidding!
Although we "counted" everything all the time - buttons, dogs, blocks, cans, cars - how many blue ones, etc,.
Lots of manipulatives to play with. Sorting colors and shapes - (and counting). Filling and dumping - water or sand (pouring & measuring really...).
He loved Barney and Mr. Rogers. READING books - having me read to him for hours every day.
He didn't much care for cars at all. Would play with legos/blocks only if you played with him. Dancing. Throwing, catching, and hitting the ball (yes, he could hit a ball with a bat - okay a big ball and a fat bat, but still - and yes, it's unusual.) Going to the playground or exploring/hiking.
Oh and bedtime, we told him the Clock said when it was bedtime - it would chime and we would count the "hour" so he would know it was "his bedtime" . . .
