The White Stripes
I've been listening to The White Stripes cd called White Blood Cells. Uncut magazine (good music web site) named it the best album of the past ten years. Wow. It's amazing.
Can anyone recommend the next cd of theirs that I might enjoy? Thanks.
I just put their dvd Under the Northern Lights in my netflix queue. That looks like a cool depiction of their Canadian tour.
Anyone who likes Led Zeppelin, blues and really inventive stuff, check them out. I think you'll like them.

1. Pick up any of the Flat Duo Jets CDs
They're the band the White Stripes stole their whole act from.

3. +1 and too many zeros to fit in the subject line......
I find Jack White to be an alright musician, but his public persona is intolerable. Dan Auerbach, OTOH, seems like a guy I could hang out with.

4. I LOVE THE WHITE STRIPES
Edited on Mon Oct-18-10 05:42 PM by smileyface
In response to the haters, TWS are a much more versatile band than the Flat Duo Jets (whom Jack White has acknowledged as ONE influence) and the Black Keys. Each band is very good at doing pretty much one style of music, but The White Stripes pull from a much wider variety of influences and consequently produce a much more exciting and interesting body of work. No two White Stripes albums sound the same.

That being said, my two favorite albums are the first (the self-titled 'The White Stripes') and the most recent ('Icky Thump'). Like I said, neither really sounds anything like 'White Blood Cells,' but all their albums are great.

5. Music Mags totally turned me off The White Stripes
Their endless fellation of anything Jack White related was such a huge turn off. I know I shouldn't hold it against the band, but I can't help it.

9. I had the same problem with REM
I didn't like their music, nor did I dislike it. What I did dislike was that Michael Stipe could fart for ten minutes into a recording mic and the music press would declare it pure genius. See also: Radiohead.

Excellent mix of current style vs classic rock style

Doesn't just replicate - Jack White creates

10. One thing for sure...
For a while there, a Jack White craze pushed the price of a vintage Montgomery Ward Airline guitar through the cieling.

11. I never really got into the White Stripes for one reason:
I cannot stand Jack White's voice. He does interesting things with his music and I might like the band if he didn't have such a terrible sounding voice.

14. Jack White is ok - but gets huge props for helping the Smoke Fairies
Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 11:14 AM by Locrian
See, it's still related to topic? But REALLY - check out the Smoke Fairies. Absolutely incredibly. Like a female Zeppelin III.

"British folk-blues duo Smoke Fairies recorded two new songs with erstwhile White Stripe frontman, Jack White, who contributed both guitar and drums. “Gastown” and “River Song” were recorded at White’s Nashville studio and will appear as a single on his Third Man Records December 7.

Rumor has it that Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, the ladies of Smoke Fairies, spotted White at a crowded London bar and convinced the DJ to play their single, then grabbed Jack and passed him a whiskey and their CD. They clearly made an impression as they were invited to open for White’s The Dead Weather at their London debut in June."

16. Oh, hell, any of them - arguing over which is best is like arguing which is best of:
kobe beef, foie gras, truffles, an insane Champagne, toro, or saffron.

They're all the best, so it doesn't matter.

17. I mean, holy shit - Jack White by himself makes up for all the lame shit of the 90s and 2000s
If the cost of having a Jack White shop up on the scene is all the shit given to us in the 90s and 2000s (the pop shit, the fake metal shit like Nickelback and Hole, the shit from Creed and Oasis, the alternative bullshit fuck music like Bon Iver and REM...), then that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Of course, in a just world, Jack White would be the standard, not the utter rarity, but this is America, where only about 0.005% of the population actually gives a shit about the musicological relevance of the "music" they consume.

The rest of us don't "consume", of course, but LISTEN and ENJOY.
