Found 2 DVD set of John Carpenter Horror movies yesterday at FYE. Haha, no-brainer decision to purchase! Granted, I'd rather it had Halloween instead of Prince of Darkness, but I'll take it. Already watched The Thing today, CLASSIC horror movie! :bounce:

The original Village of the Damned scared me to death when I was 8 years old :scared:.

2. Excellent. Carpenter rules. |
|
The Thing and They Live are some of my favorite movies.
The Thing is a rare case were the remake is superior to the original.

3. oh, you know you have a great movie on your hands |
|
when you can overlook the cheesy special effects. I've seen The Thing multiple times and it still kept me on edge watching it. They Live will probably be the next movie I watch from the set.

I still think they're some of the best stop-motion and creature-effects I've ever seen.
But you're right about them being secondary. The Thing has the best atmosphere and the feeling paranoia and fear. Still gives me the chills.
Edit: Have you seen They Live before? If not, you're in for a treat!

7. Just saying the effects look pretty dated now |
|
but they are brilliant for their time. I've seen parts of They Live, I may have even seen the whole movie at one point, but it's been a long time.

5. Oh wow. I already own the thing, but I'd probably pick that up just to get the other 3. |

8. Assault on Precinct 13...the original version... |

...in 1976, I saw it in a theater on Hollywood Boulevard with the executive producer Joseph Kaufman.
He was a friend of me and my then-wife (who he was also, as they say, "hitting on").
He used credit cards and personal loans to "executive produce" the movie. He was as poor as me, a 21 year old airbrush artist in Los Angeles, except that he spent all of his money on "the movie," and I spent all of mine on paying for rent and food (my rich, family-financially endowed wife/professional foreign art student wife supplied the drugs!).
Thankfully, neither one of us ended up with her.
I saw Joe a couple of years ago at the PCC Flea Market, but I don't think he recognized me.
Don't know what happened to my rich ex-wife.
Edited for clarity.
