So I saw a murder scene while coming back from the grocery store.
Near my home earlier today.

There were 4 squad cars, a crowd of people across the street, and a sheet pulled over what looked like a person's body.

I checked the news, and it's exactly where I saw it.

1. I used to live in the HFD.
Sisson's not the normal part of town for that either, I was expecting it to say Jennings Road or Park Terrace or Sigorney Street or well...not Sisson Ave.

2.  A woman drowned near my home last week. I wish I'd been there because
I can swim, I float (I literally can't sink) and I know water rescue techniques.

11. I can't sink anymore either. My kids think it's hysterical but
it's been helpful to them having a buoy for a mom as they have learned how to swim.

13. More common in Women
The ability to float or sink changes with the ratio of muscle and bone (which sink) to fat. Women have a naturally higher ratio of Fat so they are more likely to float. Similarly I hear that African American men have a higher bone/muscle density and as a result have a more difficult time floating.

15. I remember playing a game of waterpolo girls against the guys at the cottage. I was a thin woman
then, we all were. After about 20 minutes the guys were getting very tired and so we girls won. We girls didn't have to work very hard to stay on the surface. LOL! But now with a bit of excess weight on my stomach I can literally lay there in the water, without treading water, and I'm right on the surface.

7. That's okay, there were plenty of cameras at the grocery store.
I imagine they're timestamped too.

8. When I was a reporter in Vancouver there was a massive gang war raging
Saw many plugged corpse. It was really weird when it got to the point where that shock and disgust and dark feeling stopped coming over me when I saw a body. It turned into just another day at the office.

16. Was that gang war centered in the East Hastings area?
Around Chinatown or points east?

17. Naw, mostly surrey, east van/main, abbotsford, coquitlam
The bad part of East Van wasn't really affected. I lived in the neighbourhood where most of these shootings were happening. It was always two guys in BMW gunned down while at a traffic light kid of thing. Some happened outside of nightclubs too, but the real hardcore junkies weren't involved.

18. Abbotsford?
The border crossing city? It seemed like that was mostly a rural area.

20. yeah, it is sorta rural, but 300,000 people live behind the mountain
And this one really bad gang selling and making meth and coke has gone to odds with another.

21. A guy from Richmond once told me
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 07:31 AM by Art_from_Ark
"When there's a monster truck rally in Delta, Surrey becomes a ghost town".
I knew that town had a sort of redneck atmosphere to it, but I didn't realize it had gangs.

What about White Rock? Or New Westminster?

23. New West was the suburban terminus of Sky Train
when I was up there, about 20 years ago. It had a kind of decayed look to it, but they were trying to redevelop the area around the station, with a fish market (*something Quay*, I can't remember the full name) and maybe some other facilities. Sorry to hear that it's "bad news".

White Rock took a big hit when they introduced the GST. I guess it has recovered a bit since then.
