Landlord says I have one dog too many
I complained about my heat and the fact that the landlord wrote a lease for a subsequent tenant that was incompatible with mine -- mine say "landlord warrants that thermostat" will be set to my comfort (since I pay the bill). So about the time I think we have the heat all settled I get this:
It has come to my understanding that you now have two puppies living with you. In your lease agreement, it stipulates there you are only allowed one dog at a time. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

This is the landlord's sister. He is cool and a dog lover but he is in Africa so not sure what to make of this. But one thing I am not doing is giving up one of the pups. I can only guess who brought it to her understanding but likely the other tenant or the broker that messed up the lease.

Ought to be an interesting holiday season here.

1. Not to be obnoxious, but you did break the lease.

2. they wrote a lease that was incompatible with mine
and that has lead to me going without enough heat last winter, no heat until friday this season and problems between me and the other tenant. They breached the lease also and, to my mind, in a more significant way.

3. what does the other party's lease have to do with yours?
i don't think there is any provision in the law that stipulates leases among tenants on a property have to be "compatible." then we have to ask what you mean by "incompatible."

plus it depends on where you live. most northern cities are very pro tenant, but if your lease mentions the amount of pets you are allowed to have that is separate from whatever "compatibility" issue you are raising.
