Happy Days Star Tom Bosley Dead at 83
Tom Bosley the folksy father of Richie Cunningham on the '70s sitcom about the '50s, ABC's Happy Days, died Tuesday in his Palm Springs, Calif., home. On Oct. 1 he had turned 83.

The actor died of a staph infection, according to TMZ, which first reported his death.

Before finding fame on the small screene, Bosley won a Tony for starring as the beloved New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in the Pulitzer-Prize-winning 1959 musical Fiorello!. He also made a memorable mark in the 1964 Peter Sellers cult comedy The World of Henry Orient, as the too-understanding husband of Angela Lansbury's character.

Reacting to Bosley's death, his Happy Days costar Henry Winkler expressed his sadness, telling Los Angeles's KNX-1070 News Radio, "I'm in shock, I really am. I spoke to him just a few weeks ago and he seemed to be getting his strength back."

1. Mr. C & Mrs. Cleaver within 24 hours...that is just too intense.
Icons are icons, but that was just too much.

The one thing that always comes to mind first when thinking about Tom Bosley is that famous "talking directly into the camera" moment at the end of the final "Happy Days" episode. I thought the show really limped along in its final seasons, but that was a classy way to say goodbye.

R.I.P., Mr. Bosley. Tell June she doesn't have to worry about the Beaver any more.

Well, what can I say? Both of our children are married now and they're starting out to build lives of their own. And I guess when you reach a milestone like this you have to have to reflect back on, on what you've done and, and what you've accomplished. Marion and I have not climbed Mount Everest or written a great American novel. But we've had the joy of raising two wonderful kids, and watching them and their friends grow up into loving adults. And now, we're gonna have the pleasure of watching them pass that love on to their children. And I guess no man or woman could ask for anything more. (Looks at the camera) So thank you all for being, part of our family... To happy days.

He was really a 48 year old man who brainwashed the Cunninghams into believing he was a teenager, in order to scam money and Christmas presents from them. He was discovered when Arthur did a mind meld with Richie and realized his memories had been tampered with. Arthur then went to Chuck and told him a story about his mother and made Chuck feel so bad that he gave Arthur the memory and Arthur was able to purge it from the Cunninghams' minds with a device built for him by Doctor Duffenshmirtz. Perry allowed this to happen.

He is attached to an IV pump at home and he goes in for hour and a half infusions twice a week, for six weeks. This stuff is hardcore.
