Man loses iPod, accidently impregnates wife.
One such user is 28-year-old Doug Wilson, who owns an iPhone 4 and an iPod Touch. "During the day, he tends to carry the iPhone 4 in his hand," CNN writes, explaining that he needs it to snap pictures, light up his path, and more.

Then there's his wife, Ashlee, whom he accidentally impregnated one evening after forgetting to look at an iPod app that explains the details of the rhythm method.

"That's how we got pregnant," he said, "because I lost my iPod Touch."

While the couple from Russellville, Arkansas, are now thrilled about their expected baby girl, Doug Wilson said the slip-up was yet another reminder that his phone should be turned on, in his hand, ready to accept alerts -- all the time.

1. Even if he hadn't lost his ipod the rhythm method isn't very effective. (n/t)

18. He and his wife should have invested in a basal thermometer
Either that, or an ovulation predictor test (granted, those are more expensive in the long run because an OPT is single-use). It's known as the symptothermal method and here's how it workd: the woman takes her temp and if the temp gets higher (about .9 degrees) than baseline, it's a sign she's about to pop out an egg. Ovulation raises a woman's temp around the pelvic area, sharply increasing her chances at conception. Besides, woman who are ovulating get "hotter" than usual, in more ways than one :D

Religous reasons aside, there are sound, secular reasons for couples to use natural family planning methods like the one I mentioned above. First, the basal thermometer is a one-time purchase, making it cheaper in the long run. Second, couples who want to have kids but have trouble conceiving use natural family planning to time their lovemaking so they'll be more likely to have a child. Third, and most important, it's based on reproductive knowledge. The man has to cooperate, too, by "holding it in" or "saving some for later" for a few days until she's unlikely to conceive.

More detailed information here.

BTW, an ipod is not exactly the best ovulation predictor known to humanity

I predict the next generation is gonna need a device to tell them how to wipe their rear. Seriously, I've seen guys standing by a car with a flat and no idea what to do about it. The car had a jack, a tire iron, and a spare. That was the first time I got a feeling that I'm old.

5. My step-father has a buick
a few months after he got it the battery went dead and he needed a jump. He popped the hood....and NO BATTERY!! There was no battery under that hood and he was absolutely perplexed. He finally got out the owner's manual and he found out it was under the back seat. You had to fold up the back seat to get to the battery. Stupid........

8. Some Engineer...
thought that was a good design. I don't know what the discussion that led to the decision to put the battery there was, but engineers forget about ease of maintenance quite often. Just think, without engineers, we wouldn't have engineering disasters.

ERTW.

16. Enough engineers felt that way...
that there is a push to mandate that all batteries on future models of automobiles are positioned there.

The reasoning is the same as why there are laws regarding the positioning of gas tanks. Hint: the location is about the same, right. It's to prevent ruptures in collisions. Battery ruptures are dangerous for bystanders, emergency personnel and non-involved fellow commuters, only marginally less so than fuel-tank ruptures.

If you get hit hard enough to rupture a gas-tank or battery positioned to the mid-point of the car, you're going to be dead regardless. The question is how many people not in the accident you're taking with you.

13. This has got to be a joke
"I'll be on my phone looking at Twitter and Facebook and playing 'Angry Birds' and I should be showing her affection and stuff like that. Sometimes I forget to do that," he said.

"I'm just out of touch with reality sometimes because of my phone -- I can just look at all the apps and stuff like that and just dream about the iPad and whatever -- wishing my screen was bigger -- and without realizing it, well, I haven't said anything to my wife for an hour. It's not that great."

His ipod kept him "safe" in the past? :eyes: (not in the mood for idiots today, if you don't want kids don't depend on your ipod to protect you)
