Well, the new cat is gone. |

Edited on Tue Oct-19-10 10:39 PM by Skip Intro
I found a no-kill shelter for it which tries to adopt them out through Pet Smart. He's still a little kitty, cute as hell, and affectionate as can be. The lady assured me he'd be adopted in no time, after they neuter him and see to his vaccines. Stuff I just couldn't afford to do right now. And he kicked up some awful allergies in me.
I brought him home about a week ago. Wrote about it here. Sis found him in a grocery store parking lot. Kids were allergic too. I have one cat already, who I took out of a bad situation. She didn't like the new guy at first, who I thought was another girl until today. But I caught them both sitting on the same pillow last night, and sharing a window sill today.
I hated to hand him over, but I was assured he'd be fine, and adopted quickly. With my money situation (unemployed, house in foreclosure, wtf am I going to do?) and with the allergies, and the assurances from the rescue people who took him, I thought it was the best thing.
Bye, little Comet. I'll never forget you...

3. you did the best you could in a less-than-optimal situation |

and you cared for Comet enough to make sure he was placed with a group that will find him a good home. It must be hard to give up a creature you've brought into your home. I have placed several animals that sort of showed up on my doorstep at no-kill shelters, but I never integrated them into my life b/c I already had 7 cats, no yard (for the dogs who passed through) and a variety of other reasons.
You were responsible when you knew you couldn't easily care for Comet. Do take comfort in that.

Don't beat yourself up, sweetie...
I know it was hard, but the fact that it's a no-kill shelter and that he's still cute will make it certain that he'll have a new home very quickly...
He needed your kindness just when you had it to give...

Thank you for doing the best for him.
He will be fine with the rescue group. Our own rescue group showcases kitties in our local Petsmarts, and Petsmart has some pretty reasonable (and high) qualifications for the groups they allow in their stores. I'm sure the rescuers will do their best to find him a good home. They should have an adoption protocol in place, and question potential adoptors thoroughly.
I sincerely hope that your own situation turns around quickly! And when it does, I hope you'll consider going back to that same Petsmart and adopting a kitty. There are far too few people such as yourself who would be wonderful pet guardians! There are always other cats who will need a good home when your circumstances change.
Take care of yourself!

We don't know each other, but we do on some level.
Thanks to to you all.
Yep, it hurt to let the little guy go, but he went right out into the Petsmart cat area and explored. He'll be fine. I have no doubt. Just felt like I was abandoning him at the time, but I know he'll be fine, and have better than I could have provided at the moment. No one could dislike him. Sweetest cat.
And thanks for the warm wishes of financial recovery. It's all up in the air now. Sale date on my house is 12/14. Have a lawyer working for me, and not charging me until I find a job, but the time is running short. I'll land on my feet, just like a cat, I always have. Thanks for the kind wishes on that front.
Still got Cooper, though. She seems to be receiving orders from the high command to stop me from typing on the keyboard at any cost.
Thanks y'all.
