What do you like least and what most about your job? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 07:38 AM by MissHoneychurch
Me? I hate printing and sorting in catalog cards.
But I love cataloging them books in our system. Also, I love finding information for customers and that way learning something new.

I hate that not everyone in the world is on U.S. Eastern Daylight Time. :)
Kidding.
The real hate is that I got laid off.
Bummer.

I love the primary job itself. I never get tired of flying. Any aspect ot it can always be done better, which is what you always strive for.
Dealing with crabby customers, the FAA, the TSA and most management types I could live without.

24. I have a lot of empathy for folks who fly and work on flights |
|
a lot of customers are so rude and think that everything is about them. I am always surprised at how people start to get their luggage out before the plane has even arrived at the gate - it's not like we all aren't going to have to wait for a while. I just sit there and wait... I figure I won't get out any faster!
thanks for doing what you do!

5. I'm a work-at-home writer and editor. So the things I like most are the flexibility and the ability |
|
to choose only the jobs I want to do. I dislike hustling for work; that does not come naturally to me. So I love it when I can find a repeat client, or get a referral.

What I like best is messin' with those Republicans! Facts and figures just blow their minds.

40. I am retired too, it is by far the best job I ever had. I don't have to |
|
go to work at 5am, 1pm, 9pm, don't have to take orders from the boss's suck ass crew chief, don't have work or go to work in the freezing cold or blazing heat. Most people I worked with were OK but I no longer am forced to deal with the few assholes we had. I ran into one the other day and he wants to talk like we were old friends I just said I gotta go walked away.

15. 1) Like: I still enjoy the work I do, even after almost 20 years. However: |
|
2) Since I'm self-employed, I don't get paid unless I produce the work. This has been a problem, given my health problems in the last two years ago.
However: It still beats the bejabbers out of having a "job;" when I am able to work, I get lawyer numbers per working hour, so I don't necessarily HAVE to work full-time.
Everything has a balance, yes? At least that's how those of us who are optimists see it.

16. My pros and cons: (Teaching) |
|
I dislike that I never have a minute of down time. I don't work well when it's rush-rush-rush all the time. I also really dislike dealing with parents. Fortunately, that is a rarity.
I love (most of) the kids. They are sweet and try hard to do their best. I love working with my colleagues. I never met a finer, more dedicated, or more generous group of people. They are the best.
And I really, really love summer vacation! :hi:

17. Least: company politics, Most: when I get to do my job |
|
Awhile ago I requested a piece of work equipment. I made a case for why I needed it and how it would increase my productivity. The people I spoke to agreed that it would be more than worth the cost to purchase it for me however I am the only person in the dept they could justify buying it for. They didn't want to deal with any possible jealousy issues so I'm still making periodic requests for it.
I keep saying I need to walk up to the right people and say, "You know that great idea you had? I was wondering what the status of it was because that wonderful idea of yours is exactly what this company needs!" Sometimes I think that's what it would take to get the support and resources to do my job.

22. I hate how hard I have to rush to get everything done |
|
I am so over rushing.
I love the people I do the rushing around for.
One of them died yesterday, quite suddenly. 90-sumthin', gravelly old smoker's voice. "Luv! Kinya save me some bread for me ducks?" "'Ere, where's my biscuits? What's wrong with you, gotta bee in yer bonnet?" She'd give me a fair whack on the arm when she was vexed, but she never failed to help me clear the tables every night after tea. Cranky old bugger, dear old darlin' ... sweet dreams.
I overheard two of the ladies tonight. Someone had given each of them a pretty paper flower. One was explaining to the other: "Well what you do with it, you get a little vase and you put in a bit of water and you just pop it in there gently ..."

26. Well, I have this weird job |
|
And I can't go into details, but:
Like least--Loooooooong hours, getting stuck in rain and snow, often at night, sometimes in oddball countries like Romania, often having to get up at 4:30 to get to work, getting home after midnight (if at all), permanent jet lag, carrying my own crap around, no matter how heavy, because security personnel is too expensive for 24/7 cover, and the constant danger of having the bad guys shadow me better than we shadow them.
Like best--I'm now station chief for Europe for my gig, take as much vacation as I can fit in (and give EVERYONE who works under me the same privilege), make a decent six figure salary, travel a lot (sometimes to nice places), hang with cool people, and although those few higher-ups that are still higher up still look over my shoulder more than I'd like, and demand reports more often than I want to give them, it's STILL NOT A DESK JOB!

32. Best part is the patients I care for |
|
Worst part are co workers who have cronyism with management down to an art and use that to not pull their weight in the workload. Try to get management to fix the problem and you're the one labeled as the problem and being told "if you are not happy here then maybe you need to look elsewhere".

They have a habit of leaving a lot of their share of the workload for us night-shifters. It gets old after a while.
What i like best? Playing with my food...
There's a ton of other things i love, but i won't ramble on. I work in the kitchen of a little pub in a college town. The nightlife is, at minimum, 'entertaining'.

(That just doesn't happen very often.)
When it is bad, it is soul killing drudgery.
It all depends on who I'm playing with.
I used to believe that the selection of music, or that the audience i played for were factors in the potential to achieve that special place. But, it is not so.
