Advice on my cats
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 10:07 PM by redirish28
Okay I have a few questions and need some help.

Unfortunately beside our field where a house use to sit. Every summer it grows wildly with no one taking care of it as a result we get bugs and fleas in our apartment. The house attached to us has pets as well and they are infested with fleas as well. The owner is frighten to use any flee medication on her pets because one pet almost died after an application (The medication was given to the person by a vet. It seems the Pet just had a bad reaction.) We have been cleaning our home as best as we can and trying to clean our cats. We bath them today and I'm getting Frontline at the end of the week.

Problem is we are finding that our cats are acting strangely and we don't know if it is reaction to the flees our just them doing cat things.

PROBLEM 1--For the past 2 1/2 weeks they stayed in the kitchen and on shelves or counters or the top of the Fridge. After bathing them they are moving around the house a little more but we are noticing that one of the cats is now sitting in the litter box. (which we scrub down today and change litter)

My wife's concerned is that after we fumigate the house later this month (we are taking the cats out of the house for the night) she is worried that fleas will still find a way into our place from the attached house. PROBLEM 2-- does anyone know some sort of harmless to cats --spray or something we can do around the walls to keep fleas away?

Is there any treatment

1. You could consider this stuff.

It's supposed to be a natural product for flea and other pest control, supposedly non-toxic to creatures other than bugs. I have no personal experience with it, but I've heard a little about it -- you might want to try it before using conventional flea products (pesticides), which have sometimes been known to make cats sick.

2. My mom has used this
She had a nasty flea problem this summer. After using the bombs twice she still had fleas. I ordered her cedarcide and she started to spray it around and comb it into the cats. She really likes it, says it has helped. It must have worked well because she has not called me about fleas in weeks, lol.

3. Frontline will do the trick.

Just keep them on it.

If cost is a problem, 1 or 2 medicated cats will resolve the problem. Frontline interdicts the flea life-cycle in so many ways that it will substantially remove the problem within several weeks.

If you're truly infested, a 1-time treatment with Capstar, an oral med, will kill all fleas on a cat within 24 hours. Really cheap and your vet will sell it to you without a visit.

The wild-field next to you presents no more of a problem than a mowed, tended lawn. All fleas need to breed is warmth and humidity.

Don't over-react. Fumigation & pesticides aren't good for you are your cats.
