1. Someone told me Advantage isn't as effective as it used to be. |
|
I have no scientific evidence, just hearsay, but someone mentioned to me that fleas are starting to build up a tolerance to Advantage. I can't offer any links or documentation though. I think Fronline is cheaper, last time I looked. As far as I know, Advantage is still only available through vets.

2. cuz it works on my 6 dogs and 3 cats |
|
tried the pill comfortis(?) and they hated it. Wouldn't even eat it if it was smashed up and stuffed inside their favorite treat.
Back to frontline and no more ticks, fleas, scratching
and u can buy it almost anywhere pet food is sold

3. 1. Marketing. 2. Advantix contains permethrin. |
|
A lot of vets don't care for adding yet another chemical. Frontline Plus works just as well at killing fleas and ticks as Advantix. While Advantix allegedly "repels" the bugs, one can do the same (for dogs) by adding a pinch of garlic powder to their food.
The price is fairly close, depending on the upcharge where you're buying it.

5. Frontline works better. |

Advantage washes off if the animal gets wet. Frontline does not.
Edit: I meant Advantage, not Advantix. Sorry!
The best flea regimen I've found: treat monthly with Frontline and use Capstar if you see any live fleas. Capstar makes the blood poisonous to fleas, and it kills every live flea on the animal within a few hours, without being toxic to the animal itself. I've actually treated *rooms* by dosing my cats with Capstar and locking them into that particular room. The fleas in the room jump on the cats, bite, and then die--and I don't have to spray any nasty chemicals in the house that could hurt the animals (or the kids) later on.

I think their piece on Wal Mart was really compelling.

14. Was my first thought, too. LOL |
|
However, I've also had bad experiences with Frontline lately. Didn't work and one of my cats had a bad reaction, which she had never had before.
My vet says they aren't using Capstar any more, either. He said they are using Comfortis now.

8. No personal experience with Advantix |
|
But old Yahoo answer has some information but no link to the study. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060625161724AAB6lao*** I have an indoor cat so with little risk of ticks I use Advantage figuring least number of chemicals and it is very effective for fleas for the full 30 days.

9. They spend more money on advertising and pay for it with the ridiculous cost of the product. |
|

The Hartz drops (and other brands) are EXACTLY the same chemical as Frontline but cost less and aren't as concentrated - which is good because Frontline is overkill and no more effective, but it is however MUCH more dangerous as a potential toxic chemical in households with both cats and dogs. The dog version is poisonous to cats so if they sleep near or groom a dog, they're likely to get sick and potentially die. That's a serious problem if you have small cats or kittens.

12. I have 3 indoor cats 6 dogs - none of the cats have ever been ill due to Frontline |
|
No way is the Hartz just as effective. In fact one vet told me to buy the next higher dosage of Frontline for my dogs. That worked. I do have to keep them on it year round or else. We have terrible tick problems here in s. texas

10. Frontline worked on our dogs. |
|
Every spring we would see a large amount of ticks and fleas on our 8 dogs. One dose of Frontline fixed the problem until the next spring.

11. Neither worked for my dog. |

There's a super flea strain in New Orleans now. I switched to Comfortis and it works great. Dog hates it, but a little peanut butter solved that, and no messy fluids for me to deal with. I recommend it.
