Has anyone ever experienced true paranormal activity?
We all hear anecdotal accounts of psychic activities. Has anyone ever 100% experienced it?

3. yes...all the time

They don't usually bother me too much..one time they must of got rather randy, because I felt the bedcovers rise up, and something tried to get in bed and curl up next to me. I told it I had a headache, so cut that crap out. It never bothered me again that way. I smudge the place a lot with desert sage if thinks start getting too creepy.

6. once I lived in the attic apartment of an old victorian home
something would wake me up quite often and it was a little scary. It was like a whoooosh and then a thump into the wall. I could feel more than hear the whooosh, like something was hurtling towards the wall and then I could feel and hear the thump when it hit. I dont know what it was. It happened with the lights on or off, mostly around two in the morning.

Also, after my 21 year old cat passed away, I would feel her jump on my bed, walk across it, turn around several times like she always did and then lay down. That only happened three or four times, but I know I didnt just imagine it. It was really freaky.

11. My cat Mikey
I had a cat named Mike who was my satellite...I was his favourite thing, and he was always hanging out with me.

I had to have him put down, due to liver failure. I was broken-hearted for months.

Every once in a while, after he died, I could very plainly hear his meow, by the side of my bed. He had a distinctive voice. This happened 4 or 5 times. I'm a sane, rational human being. I don't drink or do drugs. I know what I heard. I told a friend about it, and she said, matter of factly..."oh, that's just Mikey checking in."

Haven't heard from him in a long, long time...so I figger he's doing okay. :-)

7. I have "heard" thoughts twice in my lifetime.
At least, both of the people I "heard" swear they were not speaking out loud, but that I heard exactly what they were thinking. I did have an complete auditory experience. I believed they were actually speaking. I can't do it on purpose, and I still wonder if they're not just pulling my leg. But they swear it isn't so when I ask. It's weird, because I can't verify it. Certainly not a thing I can choose to do, it just happened. Two times with two different people (both very close to me.)

43. I've heard thoughts too
One time I was hearing about 20 seconds ahead of what a couple people were saying. Yes, I was close with all the people involved but it was weird to hear exactly wheat they were about to say.
When my sister and I were young, we used to speak in unision on purpose fairly often before we knew that most people could not do that.

8. me and grand dad saw my grand mother a week after she died at my dad's house
he told me he saw her around 2 and she was wearing the same robe that she was when I saw her in the hallway around 4 in the morning. it was the robe from when I stayed with her in my youth.

plus

at same grand mother's burial a wind came out of nowhere and blew like crazy as they started to lower the casket into the ground. five years later at my grand dad's burial (at the same cemetery) it was a calm, still day. Just before they went to lower his casket, a huge wind came up for a minute and was gone. We all laughed as grand ma had come to get grand dad and take him home.

but no, I dont believe that hogwash shit on tv....ghost hunters, etc.

Have you ever seen yourself in the face of a family member, perhaps someone that looks like you? Have you ever seen the face of a family member in your face?

The trick: that "you" essence can be "put" in other people, even if they look nothing like you.

Edit to add: And conversely, one can "receive" the essences of others.

17. My mom did years ago.....
When I was in high school (in the 70's) we lived in an old one room school house that was remodeled in to a house. My mom went to bed one night and was awaken by a "man" standing at the foot of her bed trying to hand her something, a bundle. She said this happened on several occasions, so much so that she was afraid to go to bed before my dad got home from work, he worked second shift. One day she was talking with a elderly neighbor guy who actually went to school in the house. She explained it to him and described the man and the neighbor said it was the school teacher. After that it never happened again.

22. I've had quite a few, but there was a time when I was living in a
condo in the San Fernando Valley (1993-1994)where events occurred that have pretty much surpassed movies or documentaries on these issues (however, I have to admit I don't watch a lot of those kinds of movies for obvious reasons). A roommate and I lived there. I was in college so I couldn't afford my own place. Things started out small (lights going off and on, my boom box coming on all of a sudden, things like that). I've always believed these things happen so I was cool as long as I didn't sense evil, which I didn't at all. One day I was studying at the dining room table. My book shelf was directly in front of me. I was looking down at the paper I was writing and heard a noise coming from the book shelf. I looked up and the books not only had slanted into the opposite direction but with my own two eyes, as I was watching, they slanted back. Now I have to tell you, that kinda freaked me out (however, my sense was that the spirit was just trying to get my attention and, once again, there was not a hint of evilness).

Well, about a month later something happened that shocked even me and COMPLETELY freaked me out. Once again, I was reading a book for school sitting in an easy chair. I had my roommate's precious little puppy on my lap. I swear to God that the remote control (which was about seven feet away on the wet bar) actually levitated in the air and flew past me to the other end of the room. The puppy was probably even more freaked than I was and we instantly ran to the back bedroom.

About two weeks later we had the horrible, horrible Northridge earthquake and our place was in really bad condition. I totally had post traumatic stress disorder and of course moved. Looking back, I kind of think this spirit was actually trying to get me to move so I wouldn't have to have endured the earthquake so close to the epicenter (about 3 miles). 16 years later, every night before I go to bed, I always wonder if I'll wake up in the middle of the night during an earthquake with my bed literally bouncing across the room. I stay in CA. because it's my home and the state that I love.

54. I had an earthquake-related experience
but the circumstances were quite different.

I am currently living in a country where I have experienced a lot of earthquakes (including 3 this past week), but the weirdest one by far occurred one early morning just after I had woken up but it was still dark outside. There was suddenly a loud thud-like sound, which was followed by severe shaking which made me feel like I was in a small boat out on the ocean. After the shaking stopped about 30 seconds later (which seemed much longer), everything was eerily quiet, and my room was filled with the strangest sensation I have ever experienced-- I had the distinct feeling that the house had suddenly been transported to the middle of a large cemetery. A weird, creepy feeling, and deathly quiet-- no outside or inside noises of any kind until the sun came up about 30 minutes later.

Later I found out that it was officially a Magnitude 5.6 quake, but the epicenter was quite shallow and only one mile from my house.

19. I have seen and heard things I can not directly explain
I'm not just going to invent some paranormal explanation for them happening. There is no 100% experience, only 100% interpretation. I don't attribute magically properties to things simply because I don't understand what caused them.

If the alleged paranormal were real it could stand up to the rigors of the scientific method and testing.

20. I've had a clairvoyant dream about an injury my mom sustained.
Edited on Sun Oct-24-10 12:16 PM by MilesColtrane
On another occasion, I heard a voice coming through my computer speakers while I was playing a game. (auditory hallucination? prank virus? stray radio transmission?) Whatever it was, it scared me a bit, and it hasn't happened again.

Finally, I had what was *probably* a dream while staying at my dad's house when he was in the final stages of cancer.

I was awoken in the middle of the night by the feeling of something sitting down on the bed in which I was sleeping. When I turned there was nothing on the bed, but there was a dazzling, very small light coming from the corner of my room. It was near the wall that was directly adjacent to the room where my dad was sleeping.

Cue the Twilight Zone theme.

23. I believe so. Like the others, many times. When I was a kid we
had a piano that would play, on it's own. Mostly in the night when someone was sleeping in the room with it.
Maybe it was just a haunted house. There were also frequent footsteps up the stairs. The dog would look and bark, as if he saw someone, but we never saw them, just heard them.
My cat more than once seemed to return. After death. The other cat would see him. And go to look, for a while.
I have had many premonitions. Just knowing, sensing that something was going to happen. Not something you would expect, something that comes to mind, unexpected and then turns out to be true, that it has happened.
Other times I knew that nothing would happen, that nothing would go wrong. I took precautions, I made arrangements, and all that, but knowing that it would not be needed.
Some of it is just logic, deductive reasoning. Surmising. Knowing people, knowing their weaknesses, where they will fail. Having an idea which way they will go, where to find them, at what time of day.
So still have no idea if there is really anything to it.

27. Actually, once, I felt someting hovering over me, pulling me up, out of my bed.
Edited on Mon Oct-25-10 02:35 AM by Skip Intro

This was in a house in a subdivision named for an Indian tribe.

It woke me up.

It wasn't like a dream, but more like something with real qualities that woke me up, took my breath away, and I woke up in time to escape from it. I felt like I needed to escape from it.

Don't know what it was, but it was real, and it wasn't there to have a beer with me.

I slept downstairs that night.

Never felt it again.

Threw away my one Slayer tape that night, pentagram on it...

I've heard that a pentagram is an invitation to those from the darkside. An open door into your home.

Is that true? I don't know. But I got rid of that tape, that night. (still love Slayer's music, btw)

Maybe the older you get the less susceptible you are to such influences - the less accessible you are to contact with those from other-dimensions. Belief is the cornerstone to all reality, yes?

But yes, something, standing next to me, while I slept, tried to pick me up out of my bed. I woke up. I could feel it leave. This happened. Yes, it did.

30. Now I remember what happened to my mother
Her father had died after a routine operation, he was an old man and his body just couldn't take it. This, sadly, left my grandmother, who'd suffered numerous strokes, with no caretaker. My mother was very stressed out.

One night her and my father were lying in bed reading. And my mom says to my Dad, "Did you just hear that?" And my Dad said, "No, what?"

My mom said, "My father just spoke to me. He said, don't worry, I'll take care of your mother."

Now, they were wide awake reading when this happened, not half asleep.

32. Yes
Some minor things and one very major event which I will relate after this minor event- a cat that was my companion was put to sleep (in other words, destroyed because it was old and had medical problems) and a few days later, I was sitting in my chair in front of the computer and I could have sworn I saw a "ghost" cat shape come close to my legs and rub against them. It was odd, because I saw an outline cat shape but it wasn't distinct. Kind of like it was there and it wasn't there at the same time. Now, maybe I was seeing things or something, but it was definitely an odd experience.

The following though, I cannot explain, and is 100 percent true. I was working by myself inside an office building on a Saturday morning, a slow morning, the building was locked up and had typical glass revolving doors as an entrance. I was at a desk and happened to look up and outside to the sidewalk, and I saw a very strange woman walking. She was dressed all in red, with boots and a coat. I'd say she was in her 50s in age. She looked normal in her face. The color of her clothes was red, but not garish red, kind of a weird shade of red.

I can be a perceptive person and judge people quickly, in terms of their being a "good" person. I guess its kind of like having vibes about people when you first meet them, and you can sense good and bad people? I think I'm not alone in having these feelings anyway.

However, with this lady there was something exceedingly strange about her. Let me put it this way, when I first looked at her, I did notice her strange clothing, but it was much more than that. It was a feeling that came in a split second, like she wasn't, well, human. Its very hard to explain. But I knew there was something very special about her, that she had power. I took all this in - in an instant. You know how fast thoughts can be.

So, she happened to be walking and had a nonchalant air about her to the outside world, but I was having these strange feelings about her. I saw her for around 5 seconds in total walking down the sidewalk and then she disappeared from view. Anyway, I put it out of my mind as an odd happening, but nothing that significant at the time, and continued to work at my desk.

If that is all that had happened then this would be unremarkable. But its what happened next that was singular and impressed upon my mind a permanent record of this whole event.

About 5 minutes later, I had the feeling someone was watching me. Everyone knows the feeling. I had it quite strongly and looked up. To my shock, the strange lady in red that I had seen earlier, was standing in front of one of the glass revolving doors, staring in at me.

But she wasn't just staring at me. She had an utter malice about her, the way she was staring at me. It was like I
could sense the pure malice and hatred she had as she looked at me. She held my gaze. She was about 75 feet away from me. It was horrible. I knew at that moment, that she knew I had sensed she was more than she appeared to be. She knew that I had pierced her "veil" of normality she projected to the world, if you will. She wanted me to know that she knew, and that she was a truly powerful and malicious being.

So I decided to get up and show her that I was not afraid of her. To show her, that I wasn't a coward, no matter what her true nature may be. I stood up and approached her. As I got within 20 feet, she turned and left without a backward glance. I didn't see her again. And that is the end of the story, but it was the strangest supernatural (or paranormal if you like that word better) experience that has happened to me.

34. No. No one ever has.
People have had real experiences they could not otherwise explain and have attributed them to paranormal experience. As a matter of semantics, if the supposed causes of paranormal experience were real, they would be normal, unknown causes.

38. I don't think, but my mom and dad have
My mom once saw a UFO near Lansdale, PA.

My dad felt a cold spot in his late father's house, and had a fan in an old ambulance suddenly go off.

I believe there are things science has yet to explain (just like always.) Things some rule out now will be given credibility in the future.

39. A house i lived in about 25 yrs ago had a lot of activity...
Edited on Mon Oct-25-10 11:48 PM by Rhythm
Unexplainable footfalls in the hallway, or even in the room where we were... objects moved around while we slept (between bedtime and awakening.

One time, whoever it was even sat beside me on the bed... I had my eyes closed, and the room was dark, but i heard footsteps and felt someone sit down on the bed. Thought it was the wasband, but he was still in another room.

Yeah... i freaked a little that time.

40. Just had an odd experience a couple of weeks ago
My best friend was visiting from Florida and she brought her dog. We put his food and water in the kitchen but he wouldn't go in. Even when she stood in the kitchen and called him, he'd come to the door and just stand and look at her. At first we thought he just wasn't hungry but this went on for 24 hours. Finally she asked me if there was a spirit in the kitchen. I told her I didn't think so, I'd never felt anything, but that the guy who lived upstairs (this is a two story duplex) for thirty years died up there about ten years ago and I'd heard he didn't like dogs.

We moved the food and water into the dining room and the dog came over instantly, ate all the food, and drained the water bowl.

I've often thought that that man visited his old place when no one was up there and there is often an unexplained cold spot in our shared hallway near the stairs to upstairs. Maybe it's him.

42. I experienced a very vivid episode in my teens, but now I realize
it was probably just a quite strong case if hypnagogic imagery.

Then years went by and now I'm having episodes quite often. I wish I could stop them but I don't now how. They have most likely increased the way they have because I'm living through the hardest, most stressful period of my life. I don't think it's paranormal activity because I've never experienced them while I'm wide awake. But that's for another thread.

My mother has experienced something very strange. Twice people have seen her, even spoken to her in a different city than the one she was at. Like if she was in two places at the same time.

My grandparents once heard a racket in their big backyard. When they looked they saw "two balls of fire", or "two ball of light" floating, chasing each other. They were spooked about that for a long time.

I have had a couple serious premonitions (death, destruction, serious accidents.) I generally dismiss these experiences and am in no way interested in cultivating this capacity. For example, I was at work a few weeks before my wedding and I suddenly said, “I will never walk down the aisle. There’s going to be a terrible car accident.” When I said it, it was like I was realizing it and saying it at the same time. Then I just shook it off and told my co-worker to forget I ever said anything. Seriously, was I supposed to avoid riding in cars until after the wedding? I mean what good does it do to have this kind of information? Anyway, folks that have been here 7 years remember that I was in a terrible car accident the day before my wedding and was married in a hospital bed at Stony Brook University Medical Center. That’s just one example. I can think of just a handful of others. I try not to dwell on them because I don’t want to open myself to having more of these kinds of experiences. I mean, you just have to follow your gut in each moment and make the choices that make sense to you whether you somehow have periodic access to information from the future or not, so what good is it?

But here’s an experience from a LONG time ago that I do find fascinating. I’ve always had a memory of a party that my parents had when I was very little. My Aunt Judy was sent to the liquor store to get more alcohol and I went with her. I remember every detail of this trip. The walk through the apartment complex courtyard, down the concrete steps, through the parking lot, into the brightly lit store, up and down the aisles. On the way back, she fell on the concrete steps and the bottles broke and cut into her chest. She was bleeding badly and couldn’t get up. I was scared and so little and I didn’t know what to do. I looked up to the apartment window where my parents were and at that moment my mom looked down and saw my Aunt Judy in the pool of blood. She called 911 and everyone came down. That’s all I remember. When I was a teenager I asked my mom if she remembered that night and if she had felt compelled to look out the window. She said that she did feel compelled, but that I hadn’t gone with my Aunt Judy that night. My mom was pregnant with me.

Edit: typo

49. I have to comment on the part about your mom being pregnant, wow.
Amazing really. Good thing your folks weren't religious or something. I mean a religion that would make them believe it was evil for you to know things. I do agree in general about knowing the future, really events tend to have so much momentum behind them, they are very difficult to stop, however, you can modify them somewhat. I think, if one accepts the concept of premonitions, one must accept some power over the events, or truly what you say, about the desire not to know, would be a method of maintaining sanity.

47. It depends on what you consider paranormal.
Hypnosis can make the mind believe all kinds of things. Neurotransmitters, like serotonin can induce hallucinations, when it is in a certain form, it is similar to LSD (LSD has its effect on serotonin receptors). Perception of any event is dependent upon experience, reference and understanding, that is why it was so easy to convince ancient civilizations that gods existed, they knew so little outside of their little realm.

That said....one morning, I was waking and I felt a huge presence, I was OK with it, wondered about it, but it seemed benevolent and I was just waking from a good sleep. But then, I physically felt it move over me and heard it say, "At last" and reach out to embrace me. It was a female voice. And my impression was of comfort, but it was so huge and powerful. I said "No, please don't", so it stopped/was gone. Anyway, I imagined it to be like Ponyo's mother, if you haven't seen Ponyo, it is a terrific animated film, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

51. I'll tell you kids a spooky story that happened to me one hot windy night in Calabasas
I had a place in a horsey area, and the next door neighbors had the crumbling foundation of the home of the Son In law of Miguel Leonis, famous wealthy benefactor and pioneer of the area, on their property near my fence line. It was under a massive old Oak tree. We looked up the history of the home and discovered that the guy had murdered his wife, daughter of Leonis, in a jealous rage. Leonis had him dragged behind a horse for a couple of miles over to a tree in old Calabasas that stood for years outside what is now the Sagebrush Cantina and was known as "The Hanging Tree". They hung him there. But it was said his wife's ghost, who died a violent death, haunted the area like La Llorona. Fast forward to a moonless night, I heard the horses in the back corral going nuts, and I grabbed the rifle that always leaned at the back door and headed out there because I figured one of the big cats that lived in the hills had come down. I look over to where one of my horses was, there's.....light. Diffused and flickery. Blueish like an old TV. I round the corner and look up the fence line. One horse, a huge paint, like 18.5 hands tall, is standing with his head over the fence near the big old oak tree, while the other horses are racing around, whinnying. I see a lady in a white peasant dress, with hair down to her ass, petting him. At first I thought it was my next door neighbor, but then I realized that the lady had just evaporated into the wind right in front of me. The next day, my neighbor stopped at the fence to talk and asked me "did anything happen last night out in the corrals? The horses were making so much noise and I thought I saw one of your girlfriends out there petting Commanche ( my paint) in the middle of the night."

ooooooooooooeeeeeeeeooooooooooo. Para-fucking -normal, dude. Believe it or don't.

52. I was 14 and alone
in the house. I was sitting on the couch staring into space, when I noticed a fly land on the floor about 15 ft. away. I lifted the toe end of one of my shoes and willed the fly to crawl under it. The fly walked clear across the room and stopped under the lifted toe of my shoe, and I squashed the poor thing. I've felt bad about it ever since.

59. There is no afterlife, no ghosts..100% true, sorry.....you die, your atoms are recycled
How many people die every day?

You would think over the many years of evolved humans, many times this would have occured---

soon-to-be-dead-person: Yo, I'm about ready to die dude-

healthy-person: Really...that sucks

soon-to-be-dead-person: I got a plan, When I die, I'm going to see if this whole ghost thing works

healthy-person: How?

soon-to-be-dead-person: Well, you see those books over there,

healthy-person: Yep-

soon-to-be-dead-person: 24 hours after I die, I will move those books if possible

healthy-person: Okay- I'll watch

soon-to-be-dead-person: Dies

24 hours later-nothing
24.1 hours later-nothing
24.5 hours later-nothing
30 hours later-nothing
rest of healthy person's life- nothing

Now, repeat this millions of times...

61. of course many people have experienced it
that's why it's a topic of debate and discussion, at the end of the day, all the logic and all the reason in the world can't explain away something you have experienced for yourself

unfortunately my experience is your anecdote, so i don't see much point in trying to describe what can't be described

people who have never been in love think love is a lie and that it is just a biological function, desire, etc. -- people who have been in love can nod and understand what science says about reproduction, bonding, etc. but they have still experienced love despite all that
