A Brief Note on Yankee Fans.....(Matt Taibbi)
So I'm on NYYfans.com this morning, the big Yankees fan site, just checking to see exactly how long it would take for Yankee fans to treat the gushing wound of last night's playoff loss by laying claim to every available 2011 free agent, in particular Rangers ace Cliff Lee. In other cities fans would hesitate for at least a day or two before fantasizing about buying the player who just whipped their asses in the playoffs. But in Yankee-land there is genuine irritation that the Rangers this playoff season were somehow allowed to use Lee, a player who by fate and divine birthright already belongs to Yankee fans thanks to the inevitable $150 million contract he will collect from the Steinbrenners this winter, to deprive the Yankees of their annual World Series title.

1. No! The Yankees win because of their inherent goodness
At least, that's what Yankee fans are always telling me. It has nothing (NOTHING!) to do with their buying up every available good player. And definitely has nothing to do with being the beneficiary of virtually every controversial call you can remember from the playoffs and World Series. So stop saying that.

2. I'm surprised they're not trying to get Lee AND Ichiro
I am really, really dreading my freeper brother's next home time...he is under the impression that the only reason there are other teams in the American League is so the Yankees will have someone to beat.

You absolutely do NOT want to watch baseball with this guy. I was sitting there one fine day with him during a Yankees-Mariners game. Any time the Mariners did anything against the Yankees I heard a huge scream of "He Cheated!" Someone manages to catch the ball? He cheated: he should have dropped it. Seriously. And he's got HUGE anger management issues, so you don't want to argue with him. I have no idea how the game came out because I left in the sixth inning. (He despises Ichiro because Ichiro has the utter gall to hit baseballs in games the Yankees are in.)

But back to the point: Obviously the Yankees HAVE to buy Cliff Lee, have to buy Ichiro, have to buy anyone who knows how to play baseball because the Yankees, according to Yankees fans, are never allowed to lose.
