field of fire and "slicing the pie"
Edited on Sat Oct-23-10 08:45 PM by datasuspect
in the event of zombie outbreak, it is important to remember tactical attack and defensive routines to deal with the undead.

if you find yourself separated from your team, find a defensive cover position where you can place yourself into 45 degree arcs that will enable you to "hop" around the environment until you find effective cover or shelter.

place yourself strategically in corners without your rear exposed to the extent possible and lay fire in an arc through the blind spot of your cover. put yourself into these positions until you find effective cover or support.

1. Go up a flight of stairs, then chop them down behind you.
Cardio!

4. That didn't work for me in a dream.
At the top of the stairs, we found ourselves to be too jammed together to effectively use all of our firepower and so we were overwhelmed by the onslaught charging up the stairs and down the hall behind us.

9. That's a very detailed dream.
Yikes! :scared:

Remember, cut the stairs down after you climb up them!!!

And you have to form ranks: prone, kneeling, standing. The zombies aren't going to shoot back, so you can be close-formed like that. ;-)

10. I've had that dream many times over decades
It never changes. We start out holed up in an old farmhouse during a blizzard. Me and another guy I don't know are assigned to defend a room on the 1st floor. Night comes and the creatures attack. I don't know what they are but they are strong, fast and have no fear. The creatures come crashing in thru the windows and the guy I'm with is killed by one as he is reloading and I then kill the creature. I back out of the room and me and the rest of the survivors decide to make a stand at the top of the stairs. The creatures attack again. Some charging up the stairs while others enter the house thru the 2nd floor room windows and attack us in the hall. We are in too tight a spot to effectively use our weapons and as the creatures are so fast, we are overwhelmed in short order.

11. Sounds like a part of good zombie story.
But a bad way to wake up, though. :-/

5. Some thoughts
Never lead with your weapon. It could be grabbed.

Never peek around a corner. The top of your head could be seen before you see anything.

Round a corner by hugging the opposite wall you intend to turn. If turning right, hug the left wall. This also applies to being on the street. Be on the left side of the street if you wish to take a right turn.

If entering an open doorway, hug the opposite wall and scan into the room first. Don't peek into the room standing by the wall the doorway is on.

If taking a defensive position in a building, take the highest level. It's also easier to clear a building top to bottom as the Germans, Russians, Americans and Brits found out in WWII.

Don't make your defensive position so strong that you leave yourself no escape route if things get really bad. A meat locker or a dead end hallway would make a great Alamo but you may well end up like the defenders of the Alamo. Dead.

6. Never back into a room or an alley. When checking out a manhole, don't
poke your head in without dropping a grenade down first.

8. I disagree.
Single head shots, well aimed, targeting the next zombie coming in to physical contact range. Save one bullet for yourself, IF you have the guts to use it.
