My personal feeling is that he jumped the shark when he sold his soul to Colonel Tom. The second jumping came when he successfully pulled off the 1968 "Comeback Special," and instead of parlaying that into a renewed career as snarling, leather-clad motherfucker with a hellhound on his trail, he headed off to Vegas to pay down Colonel Tom's gambling debts.
