1. Nicely written poll. KKKarl Rove and Frank Luntz would be proud |
|
Thanks for at least including the word "former."
GO RANGERS

2. Go Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and it's not 'cause I'm anti-Texas-I was born |
|
and raised in Corpus Christi) but because I've lived most of my adult life in California and really love the Giants (and all CA sports teams except the Raiders). It's kind of a bummer because my brother, sister and two nephews live in Houston & Austin and I know how excited they all are for the Rangers. On the other hand, It's actually kind of a win/win for me 'cause I'll be really happy for my folks if the Rangers win. :-).

Sorry, Rangers. Your league does not play REAL Baseball, therefore I cannot in good conscience root for you.

6. Well, okay I live here so DUH!!! |
|
But I also have a family connection to one of the players--I've been friends with his mother since he was 7 years old. I've been lucky enough to go to the games as his guest this year and meet the other players--most of 'em are really great, down-to-earth guys now that Barry Bonds's ego isn't the biggest player on the team!!!! So because of personal investment, I soooooo want my home team to win. I'm shocked they beat Philly, because some of those guys (Werth, Ibanez, Howard) played amazingly! They scared the crap out of us!!!
So what do y'all think? Who should we fear in the Rangers?

There are several of them that I'd LOVE to meet! Especially Brian Wilson, but also Freddy Sanchez.

11. I'll be pulling for the Giants - going with the home-state team. But more importantly, |
|
I'll be hoping for a sweep, to clear up more TV time for hockey... :)

13. I would be happy if people would give up referring to the Rangers |
|
in terms of one of their former part-owners. Sorry, MrS, but it's bullshit.
I'm not pulling for the Rangers despite the politics of their current president nor despite Geo. Bush.
I'm pulling for the Rangers because they're an exciting team, they're in my favorite division, and their time has come. I am thrilled for them and hope they kick the Giants' ass.
My humble suggestion to this community is to get off the "can't cheer for the Rangers because of Geo. Bush" bullshit. You don't have to root for them, but honestly, this is your reason not to root for them?

I knew DU would do this. Pull against the Rangers because you're for the Giants, not because of the "George W. Bush's former team" garbage. One said it was now "Blue state vs. Red state." I am really tired of that as well.

16. Basically, since I don't have a horse in this race, I'm pulling for neither |
|
(No Tigers!)
But actually, this thing was meant as nothing more than a joke. And sure I took a dig at the Rangers' former owner, but it was meant in jest. Besides, here in the Lounge, we needle each other all the time, right? (Needle-needle!)
Second, I really couldn't think of anything funny to say about the Giants, so I decided to play that one straight.
Between these two teams, since I personally can't cheer for one over the other... I'll say good luck to both of them.
It was just a joke.

30. Doesn't matter to me, now that my Phils are out |
|
The Rangers have the Bush connection, but I didn't like the Giants. I still can't believe my Phils lost. Maybe they thought they could coast to the WS. Next year, maybe they will be more determined.

31. I've been pulling for the Rangers since before Bush bought the team as a political stunt. |
|
I cheered for them when you could throw a ball in the outfield stands and let it bounce around and not be afraid it would hit someone. I cheered for them when you could yell "Hey, Pete!" to the left fielder, and Pete would yell back "Hey!" because it was so quiet he could make out what you were saying.
I remember sitting in the stands as it got colder and darker, trailing by impossible numbers, waiting until the final out because there would be fewer people trying to leave then.
When I moved to Austin, I drove out one night during a game to the house we were thinking of buying to make sure I could get the game on the radio there. When I could, we bid on the house.
So fuck Bush. They are my team.
