Today, I am embracing mediocrity |
|
Just have to share this.
So, this local broadcast media outlet is launching a new website with a ton of new content. And – as is always the case in broadcast media – they clearly don’t understand the scope of the project. They are trying to do too much in too short of a time with people who don’t know what the hell they are doing.
The result will be half-assed content that could have been a heck of a lot better if anybody had bothered to plan and think things through - and if just a little more time had been invested.
Friday afternoon, they were way behind schedule and asked me to write a bunch of stuff over the weekend for a flat rate. I cringed at the amount they offered because I knew I’d pretty much have to pull an all-nighter on Saturday night. However, I agreed because I need the money.
I did about a week’s worth of work in two days – and frankly, it shows. But guess what? The client was thrilled. They thanked me effusively – using exclamation points. They said everything looked great and had no follow-up questions or requests for revisions. I made a quick $500 and probably have a new client (which I hope to charge at a higher rate in the future).
“Embrace the mediocrity” is my slogan for today.

1. You could probably become a millionaire in the MSM. |
|
And you're not doing anything that jillions of people don't do every day just to get by. Congrats on making $500 toward paying your bills.

3. Has it got anything to do with the car ad about the new 2011 model Mediocrity? |
|
I think it was a spoof but I have not cared enough to go to the website given in the ad. It's an entire slick ad for a new car and the people blandly talk "embracing" their mediocrity with it's "full spectrum of beige".
The ads are up on YouTube, but I don't want to post a link since it is a viral ad campaign.

4. You could offer them an update for $200 and jack up the site and do all those things |
|
you would have done. That way you can use it on your resume and feel good about the job.
