I have no idea how this happened (pics).
This is a wind faring that extends off of the right side of the cab of my truck. Last night, as I was pulling into my first stop on this load, I heard a thump coming from that area of my truck. I got out and took a look and this is what I found.

I couldn't see anything that I could have hit, but it was dark. I was still at the same place this morning and I took a good look at where I pulled in thinking there my be a tree limb or something hanging down there. There was nothing. I have no idea how it happened. I'm hoping it won't be too costly to repair and can be done in a short amount of time. It looks a little bent, but I'm thinking that with a vice and a few rivets it can be put back together alright.

4. Duct tape comes in MANY colors now. Get one that is at least close.
The only think duct tape is NOT good for is use on DUCTS! It was created for WW II to keep ammunition and other supplies dry at sea - and it was dark green.

2. It sure isn't self evident as to what or how it happened just by looking at it
Very puzzling.

5. I used someone's short circular driveway in California to turn my 33-ft RV around...

Things could be much worse. Try to keep THIS in perspective and be careful, my friend.

8. That picture is funny and horrific at the same time
That looks like a dump truck and the driver probably took off down the road with the dump still elevated for some reason. At some construction sites they have signs warning dump truck drivers about lowering their beds.

6. Zombies!
That's the first scene of every "it's after you" movie that takes place on a road instead of in a house. Hang garlic from the rearview mirror and fill the windshield washer with holy water IMMEDIATELY.

10. I hadn't thought of that
I guess a zombie could have swung down from a tree and attacked my truck thinking it was a giant skull containing a huge brain. I'll be on the lookout for them.

7. Were you anywhere near high winds?
There were pretty bad storms in several places near here this week... more on the way, too.

Hope it wasn't hit by flying debris.

11. No
I'd been sitting at a truck stop all weekend and the weather has been alright here if a little damp.

9. Should not be hard to fix.
Very possibly all that's needed is some bending back to original shape and some pop rivets or better yet through bolts, for a permanent repair.

The problem might not have originated when you heard the thump. My guess is that it happened when you were at high speed and this was caused by a combination of inadequate assembly (not strong enough) and wind force from your speed. There are no scratches that would indicate any kind of collision with a tree branch or whatever. If my theory about the cause is correct, you would want to do a better job of reassembling and securing than the original assembler did.

Is the other side of your cab identical? Does examining that help you figure out what happened?

12. Yeah, the other side is the same
Wind farings are designed to be durable in high winds, but I suppose a few bolts could have worked loose.
