Poll question: anyone who hates or belittles your pets
does not really love you.

1. Belittles, yes. They're not obligated to love, like, or not hate everything you do,
but if they can't be kind to or at least keep their mouths shut about things that you care about then they pretty much suck...

17. Yeah, that's a good distinction.
I don't care if people like or love my cats, but bitching about them in front of me shows a profound lack of respect for my feelings.

Also, people who question how much money you spend at the vet are the worst kind of control-freak assholes. It's nobody else's business if you want to spend your own money of life-prolonging procedures for an animal you love.

3. Anyone?
Hell, *I* don't like most of my pets. The two dogs bark too much and poop & pee in the house. Two of the cats are aloof and/or disruptive. The third cat is the only one I really like, and I am just crazy about him. I could squeeze and smooch him all day. Here's my Leo :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :

8. Actually, I voted yes, but I'm not so sure
I really hate my sister's dog. It's a stupid, stupid, stupid dog, and it's messy and hyper and likes to jump on you - oh, and it's a freaking LAB. Being jumped on by a lab != being jumped on by a rat terrier.

Now, all that said, if my sister loved the dog and I knew mocking it would hurt her feelings, I'd keep my mouth shut. But she doesn't like it either, and basically only tolerates it for the sake of her daughter, who BEGGED for a lab and loves it to death. (And yes, I realize my sister is mostly to blame for a) letting her 6 year old pick the family dog and b) not taking the time to get the dog proper training, although in this idiot dog's case I imagine that would be quite an investment of time and money.)

So ultimately, my vote remains yes. Hating or belittling something that you know someone else loves is just mean-spirited and assholey.

10. Disagree
My mom loves me more than anyone else in the world, but she hates all cats, and my two felines are no exception. She doesn't do anything TO them, just thinks cats in general are "useless". Fuck it, she's 85 years old (but acts like 65)--there's no changing her mind now.

Oh yeah--and I'm also not a big fan of Mr. MG's tarantula.

21. Ooh! Ooh! I know the answer!
I vote for kicking the ass of the MG family member who actually thinks big-ass hairy spiders are cute/intriguing/good pets and so has forced the ever-patient MG to coexist with at least one (sometimes two, three, or four) for the past 13 years. Yes INDEED. :hi:

SCHEDULING THEM BOTH FOR ASS KICKINGS. OH WHAT THE F***, I'LL MAKE IT A THREE-FER and TOSS IN THE CAT HATER TOO. Yes INDEED.

24. It's a fair cop
Can you also fit in an ass-kicking for the pisspot feline who refuses to use the litter boxes? Mother-who-hates-cats doesn't understand why we don't put her in a shelter (or, rather, toss her at one as we drive by), and quite honestly, when I'm layering puppy pads all over the house and scrubbing her latest mess, I do wonder myself, but...sigh...she's part of the family.

Or...wait...would this information just reinforce the fact that Mr. MG and I need our asses kicked? Please clarify--I'm unclear on some of the nuances of scheduled ass-kickings. Thanks much! :hi:

13. Anyone that would belittle my pets isn't welcome in my home, or wanted in my life.
We treasure our four-legged friends just as much as any member of my family.

My family has always been that way, all of us.

My daughter once had a loser of a boyfriend that didn't care for any of our cats, and they didn't care for him. Needless to say, the kitties can pick out losers with uncanny accuracy, and my daughter soon gave that jerk the boot.

Her current beau gets mobbed by them as soon as he comes over; they all love him and can't wait to be rubbed up.

This guy is definitely a 'keeper'. My daughter thinks he just may be the one.

Avoidance.

I'm allergic to dogs too, although I like dogs. Depends on how long the hair is and the breed.

I'm allergic to them, cat boxes smell horrible, they get tangled up in my legs. I would not hurt an animal.

36. Sorry. I missed it.
I think I was having a Bill Cosby flashback. :)

On reflection, it seems dogs tend to mirror the personalities of their owners, so if one doesn't like the dog they probably won't get along with the owner either.

Of course, somebody probably said that upthread too...

35. I have a friend who loves, but is allergic to, my cats
Edited on Wed Oct-27-10 09:53 AM by meow2u3
They get asthma when they're around my cats. She (the mother and my friend) loves my cats; it's just that the cats' dander doesn't love her back.

The only cats who don't seem to give her allergic reactions are small, black, female shorthair kitties. I don't know why.
