17. O.K., yes, a *typing exercise*!1 It's been years, so the specific one got away from me
I just know the shock of seeing what he had been typing gave me chills.

1) The industry of his working steadily at the "writing"/typing his book had seemed NORMAL.

2) The reams and reams of nothing but a TYPING EXERCISE reverses everything, sanity > insanity in one realization.

3) Then there's the aftershock of letting it sink in how he typed and typed and typed...

It was more horrific than the physical ax mayhem and such. What a smashing device. Was it in the book? I've never read any KING. Was it KUBRICK? I've never understood why KING didn't like the movie, despite the "not faithful to the book" thing. I've tried to sit through KING's t.v. "faithful" version and haven't gotten far.

29. No, it's not in the book.
I think you've hit on one of the reasons why King doesn't like the movie - Many of the things that people remember about the story are from the movie. There was even an episode of Friends once when they were ostensibly discussing the book, but kept referencing scenes and images that are only in the movie.

8. The Omen has a lot of jolting scenes!
- what happened after the nanny yelled, "Damian! Look at me!"

- the sight of the evil nanny's face when Lee Remick's nightgown was covering her head like a veil as she was struggling to get undressed.

- the manner in which the preist died.

That movie scared me so much!

9. yep.
It was a really good horror film.

I saw it in the theater when it was new; the woman I was with grabbed my arm and buried her head in my shoulder just before the glass went slicing through the photographer - she added a whole extra layer of scary to my senses at that moment.

So for me, the scene itself was scary, but getting grabbed took it right over the top. :scared:

21. The moment I jolted a date's arm was while watching "Jaws"...
the part when Richard Dreyfus was scouting out a sunken ship under the ocean & a head suddenly popped out of a hole the moment Dreyfus was looking through.

I guess I must have doubled that moment of surprise for my date, too. :silly:

Okay, I was little and it was on Morgus the Magnificent's midnight movies out of New Orleans. But I always kind of wished I'd seen it in a theater, LSD or no.

That laboratory with the eerie picture window in the slanted roof was perfectly creepy -- & "located at the old ice house"!

"The Tingler" is one of my favorite classic horror movies.

Nice to hear from someone who is familiar with New Orleans! :hi:

19. There's a couple
In "Psycho," when Martin Balsam's character reaches the top of the stairs and the camera angle suddenly shifts to an overhead shot. The killer springs out of the bedroom and attacks. I know it's coming, but it always gives me a start. Same thing in "Halloween" when Jamie Lee Curtis walks up to the door of the old Meyer's house to put the key under the mat for her realtor mother. The camera angle shifts to shoot out the little door window and as Curtis approaches, Michael Meyer moves in silhouette from the right and the deep chord plays. I know it's coming, but . . .

I also remember it creeped me out toward the end of "The Ring" when the monster comes out of the TV screen and attacks the hapless guy watching. I suppose I should watch it again to see if it jars me, or if it just seems hokey anymore.

But those are three good moments for clenching your butt cheeks.

That entire movie scared the snot out of me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jA6pPzh6Bd4), but that scene in particular made me scream. It comes at a point when you're not expecting something gruesome to happen, and it's like Wham! Gotcha.

eta: The Spanish do creepy really, really well. Must be all those decades living under Generalissimo Franco.
