Back in the day when doctors saw tonsillectomies as
the bestest ever money-making mill in the whole wide
world, I had mine out so early that they grew back
as "buds" and had to have them out AGAIN!!!

The second time, I was armed with the foreknowledge
that it was all a part of the big lie... that I was
going to be so miserable that I wouldn't even WANT
ice cream.

I was sick a lot, so maybe it really was worthwhile in my case--who knows? :shrug:

I don't remember getting ice cream, but I do remember I was in the hospital for two days (back when they let you stay overnight at least one night for minor surgery) just before Christmas, and Santa came through with presents for all the sick kids who probably wouldn't get to go home for Christmas. I got a doll--red curly hair and a green dress. I named her Nancy. But I felt SOOOO guilty for getting a gift because I wasn't really sick--not like the other kids.

Weird what we remember, huh?
