Ai-yi-yi-yi-yi! Looks like I may have to move my feral cat colony |
|
First of all, a disclaimer, I say feral, but most are abandoned, not technically feral.
I feed them in this huge wash, over 100 acres, and I've got about 50. I know other people feed, so there's probably about 100 in there. It's BLM land, leased to the county, and for three years they've had plans to bulldoze and build a park, but in this economy, it never got the green light. They've had the plans drawn up for years. Anyway, they're now going ahead. I'm waiting to hear if they want the colony moved out of there...there's no place for them to go, so that's not really an option...or move the feeding areas while the construction is going on. With luck, there'll be huge areas in there untouched as they work on other areas.
Anyway, this is making me nuts. Worst part is with all that equipment some of the cats are doomed, no matter how good a job we do in getting them to another area...they will be too damn curious about that equipment.
Like I said, Ai-yi-yi-yi-yi!

It seems like nobody cares about them, then somebody like you comes along and changes my mind. Cats are great survivors and with your help and some help from some others, I'm sure it won't be a complete disaster. I'll say some prayers for the kitties and for you.

3. Thanks...if there were any shelter that would take them in, I'd do |
|
that in a flash, but they're all over-run right now, the no-kill ones.
Hopefully they will survive this and stay out of harms' way for however long it takes.

5. I would worry about any newbies to your colony |
|
The ones that have been fending for themselves for a while will probably stay away from the equipment. Maybe you can ask about them turning on the equipment to make noise for awhile before they actually start using them? That would probably scare any cats out of the area. My cats are long since rescued from being outdoor ferals but loud noises still scare the crap out of them...

7. Yeah, I'm really worried about the kittens that have shown up... |
|
I think I mentioned that I believe someone stopped feeding in another area because I have about 15 new guys in the last few months...some are kittens...you know how curious kittens and younger cats are.
