1. Exactly. Are you kidding me?

I can't even believe this shit. Last week they booted Michael C off supposedly because his clothes were similar in color. Today Gretchen was the winner and hello? Am I missing something? Didn't her clothes were mostly of the same color/print? I just wasted two hours watching Gretchen win that I will never get back.

:wtf:

2. I was floored. But I knew once it was Nina & Michael vs.
Heidi and Jessica, that Gretchen was going to win. I am very surprised. I thought Mondo had it in the bag.

3. Really bad judging
Mondo was the original. I loved the dress MK hated and the plaid pants were spectacular. Actaully I liked all of his and I wanted to see them up close.
Gretchen? brown on brown with some daring god-awful shorts. Even the challenge she won was a housecoat for one of the golden girls.
This show does not make sense and this viewer is out.

8. The plaid "crazy pants" outfit was my favorite.
I think the idea was to appeal to a more conservative style, (not talking politically of course!) for less daring, slightly older women.

I thought Gretchen's show looked more like a conventional runway collection, and that's why she won. Plus, the judges were irritated about seeing the polka dot long dress 3 times.

19. That polka dot dress ROCKED --
and the model who wore it looked stunning. I even loved the little hair bob she had on withit. And the plaid pants made it look like the model was 7' tall and had legs that went on forever. I loved them.

Kors and Garcia kept asking who would wear Modo's stuff, who is the Mondo woman. Hey you two, she's right here. :hi:

4. Somebody should tell Chico's that they are on the cutting edge of fashion
It just last season that Kors condescendingly explained to some designer that there was a difference between designing a ready-to-wear line and a fashion week collection. I guess he's changed his mind.

18. That is is exactly.
She makes Chico's clothes. :puke: As a woman who is techincailly in their target consumer (older, still trying to be "hip", urban) I find their clothing nauseating, as I find Gretchen's.

5. WTF!!!!
I was thinking that hers was the most boring collection EVER in the history of the show. Un-fucking-believable!

I wouldn't be caught dead in any of those hideous clothes. Even if those were the last clothes on earth, I'd rather be naked.

I am so disappointed. :(

And those "bloomers." How many women want to wear bloomers out in public?

11. Huge let down
I was tempted to go to bed about 45 minutes before it was over because the number of commercials was beginning to irritate me.

I wish I had gone to bed now. What an incredibly stupid decision. Mondo blew Gretchen away. His collection was wearable, for the most part, artistic, and fascinating to look at.

Nina said something about Seth Allen last year in defending why she didn't want to give it to Mondo. I wonder if she got flack for awarding the prize to Seth Allen's "circus" collection last year and felt compelled to do something more "now" and "practical".

12. Ridiculous!
As I listened to the judges talk I kept thinking there's no way they could give Gretchen the win. In my opinion, she came in a very distant third place.

Then they gave her the win :wtf:

14. I don't know if I can totally buy Nina's argument.
Edited on Fri Oct-29-10 09:58 AM by AngryOldDem
Since when is Fashion Week designed with retail sales in mind? I can recall other seasons of PR where the finalists showed garments very similar to Mondo's -- conceptual designs that showed a theme or an aesthetic that was not primarily consumer-driven. Some took risks -- and I think in the end that is what Fashion Week (and PR) is about.

I was disappointed in the overall drabness of two of the collections -- Andy South's especially. A sea of gray broken up by a sole electric green jacket. I was glad, however, that he came up with something to cover that absolutely hideous swimsuit (or whatever it was) that he and Tim were looking at in the workroom. Gretchen's clothes were nice, but again, after awhile they all started looking the same. Mondo -- he took risks. He had the "wow" factor. I really, really enjoyed his use of color, but perhaps what did him in with both Nina and Michael was the overall youthfulness of the designs as well as the lack of editing on some of them. But again, I'm sure that if I went back and looked at previous seasons' shows, I could easily come up with comparable collections that got raves. (Jeffrey Sebelia, season 3.)

Yes, Gretchen is unlikeable but there's no denying she is a good designer. And the fact that the panel was split between her and Mondo means at least a moral victory for Mondo.

ON EDIT: One more thing: After looking at South's collection and knocking him out of the running almost immediately, I wonder if any of them regretted choosing him over Michael Costello to advance?

collection? How many women out there have you seen that are wearing "bloomers," which are basically granny style panties out in public? Never mind Gretchen's own dress that she wore to the finale had a see through skirt with big panties underneath. Is that where fashion is going? I sure as hell hope not. Thankfully, I've yet to see any woman in public wearing that. None of it makes much sense to me. Just last week Nina didn't have much good to say about Gretchen's outfits, but just a week later and she apparently believes it's a cat's meow. Did adding high hills and new hair style really change the clothes from "granola" to amazing?

20. It seems that after a point Nina was arguing just to argue.
Heidi made a good case for Mondo, but both Michael and Nina had their minds made up. I don't know if they were swayed by the "improved" styling or not, but I wasn't a big fan of that, either. The sunglasses and hairstyles in particular. Put platform shoes on those models and with the colors and general design of the clothing, it would be like taking a wayback machine to the '70s. Is Back to the Future the new fashion trend?

17. MONDO WAS ROBBED.
And yes, I am yelling.

As a woman, a mature woman of 50 at that, I find Gretchen's work boring, uninspired, and a flashback to the worst of the crunchy 70s. :puke: Mondo's work excites me, makes me laugh, and I would wear any of his pieces I could get away with.

Bad, Project Runway, bad. :(

because his clothes were in shades of brown.
Yet Gretchen had mostly brown clothes and apparently that's just fine? What gives? No, really, WTF made them to arrive to this decision?
It makes no sense to me at all, considering just week before the comments Nina made about Gretchen's collection weren't all that flattering.
I just find it hard to believe that shoes and hair made such a tremendous difference to Nina? It's not a hair styling competition after all.

28. Yes, the judging of the finale was --
bizarre, to say the least. They slammed Michael C. and Andy for repetition of color, yet I have not seen so many shades of crunchy brown since 1974. :eyes: Also, suddenly "off the rack is a good thing"? Designing for youth and fun is a bad thing? A runway show is not supposed to be slightly over the top??

There has got to be some sort of backstory we have not gotten -- something to do with show advertisors or the network -- that had an impact on that choice.

It still stinks.

23. Heidi and Jessica should buy/commission several of Mondo's
designs and publicize them at every opportunity. He's a wonderful talent and a genuine person. Gretchen is a whiner, hypocrite, and a boring designer. I hated that there were such raves about her jewelry (which I didn't find all that impressive) and as Heidi said, "It's not a jewelry show!" Bad decision based on bad criteria.

25. Well, I was all set to argue, because I love Bohemian
and 70's styles. I just got done watching, and I have to agree, that was one bad decision. What was with the panties for shorts, anyway. How are they "wearable" and what does it have to do with an updated Bohemian 70's look? I didn't enjoy her color scheme either.

I thought Mondo's stuff was a little on the clownish, cartoonish side, but with all it's faults (in my mind and eye), it was still the best. To be positive, I am sure Mondo will have the most successful career outside and beyond PR.

Nina and Michael kept saying this is where stying is GOING!?!?! WTF? Her style looked like hippy 70's with a mix of awful 80's thrown in. Her earthy tones sucked and the jewelry was also fugly.

This is a runway... I wanna see panache!

30. *LOL* "Ralph Lauren for Wal Mart - Lion King Collection."
Mondo was robbed!!! How Nina and Michael reversed their mantra of daring and risk and argued for Gretchen's mono-toned, faux Bo-Ho is beyond me.

My wife and I fired up the DVR to watch the finals. We had the same discussion as many DU'ers this evening as we watched the judges debate. What the hell happened to panache and couture?

I really enjoyed this season, the contestants were interesting, and the drama was off the chart. The cliquishness was difficult at times. I was put off by how the mob mentality devolved to be so mean and bitter. I was most fascinated by the contestants reaction to the pressures. Instead of wilting, to my surprise Michael C. reacted to the group hate with personal growth, and that inspirational.

When Tim Gunn waded in fray and gave Gretchen a well deserved beat-down; classic. I hated the result, but all in all it was a great season.

PS I still can't believe I got sucked in to this show..

32. I get sucked in every season -- high drama + Tim Gunn's wry comments = heaven
It disappointed me, too, that they went away from high fashion to pick the winner.

Mondo was robbed, but if I'm truly honest with myself, I don't believe his collecting was as innovative as a whole as some of the outfits he made during the competitions. I loved many of the pieces, but wanted more! Gretchen's clothes weren't even in the same league as Mondo's, though.

The models do a good job of, well, being fashion models. Their 'tude walking down the runway is awesome.
