I swear, i never thought I'd be a sports fan of any stripe, but the general feeling of goodwill around the Giants being in the World Series has made snippy San Francisco like freaking Christmastown this week. Yay!!

1. I've been a Giants fan for years, but this is my favorite version of them |
|
This whole team is just so... endearing. They seem like a genuine bunch of good guys. Like they'd be fun to hang around with or something.

6. I'm not exactly a fresh-faced bandwagon-er, |

but I only started understanding baseball last season. First (and so far only) time I saw the Giants, they were playing the Rockies, and lost! What really has me is how damn happy this town is over the Series. SF is so divided into little fiefdoms, and now we have something we all can rally around. It just damn nice.

The first game was killer - both teams were awesome. I think the weather being so weird and the home field advantage really aided the Giants. Let's see what happens Saturday.

I feel sorry for Derek Holland. That's the kind of World Series debut that could destroy a pitcher's career if he isn't strong mentally.

The Rangers do so well at home, though, that I'm sure Holland will rally. Forgive me if I hope the Giants are up to the challenge!

7. It's amazing how well they can bounce back from |
|
some of these things. They have help now that they did not have years ago. I am rooting for SF, but I felt for the guy, too. I felt that way when I was watching the Phillies against SF in that last game of the playoffs. They wanted it so much, and it was such a huge disappointment for them to lose. Sports pros know what can happen.
My oldest kid is a musician. She has had career setbacks and bad auditions. She has had triumphs. She has had things happen that were just simply political and just plain mean. She knows what to expect and just keeps going. I think athletes are much the same way. I don't know if this makes sense, but they are all performers.
