Poll question: I'm curious. How is Halloween candy handled at your house? |
|
I am talking about for kids ranging from 8 to 12.

1. Other: Mom gets all the Reeses. |
|
My kids are older, but our system was the kids could eat whatever they wanted on Halloween. After that all the candy was dumped in a community bowl for all to share. The bowl was on top of the frig so I could ration when they were very little.
And for every candy wrapper I had to pick up off the floor, the candy was put up for 1 day.

3. I let him eat as much as he wants for a week or so until the "good candy" is gone. |
|
He usually gives the leftover "old people candy" (hard candies, Bit O Honey, Mary Janes, etc.) to his Grandma after that.
His dentist told us that it's better for his teeth to get all the candy-eating over fast than to drag it out for a month. We just make sure that he brushes his teeth more frequently than usual during the week after Halloween. :)

8. I love Christmas gingerbread houses. |
|
However, I don't think there has ever been such a thing as "reject candy" in this house.

My youngest son a few years ago (many years ago- time flies) had his first 'girlfriend'. As Valentine's day apporached we suggested he get her some candy as a gift. His first response was, "Oh Yeah. Hey, do we still have any of that Halloween candy left?"

Since no kids come around, I treat myself. Well, a bag goes into the freezer, and I pick at it from time to time.

they get a few fun size candy bars each, and more for the little kids whom I know from the neighborhood.
Oh, you meant in-house kids. When my son was younger, he could eat what he wanted that night- but he rarely overdid it. After a few days, he got bored and we ended up eating what was left over or gave it away.
He never sorted it, analyzed each piece and ate it gradually over time like I did when I was a kid! (of course candy bars were 10 times larger then and were a bigger deal!) :D
