My Grandma lied to me today |
|
This is the biggest issue with me and the Repubes, is that they just spout these lies and forward on emails without even verifying if they are true or not and it's really upsetting to me.
Today my Grandma sent me the email about house bill HR 4646 about the "Debt Free America Act" and I had to write back, to my Grandma, and tell her that it was all made up.
My parents are the exact same way, they can't let facts get in the way of their fight to slander Obama and it's really upsetting to me. These are people I'm supposed to trust, my parents and grandparents, that I would hope and believe that they would never just tell me a bold face lie, yet here there are time and again about politics just lying to my face.
I just don't know what to make of it. I'm just really upset because it sucks when you can't even trust your own family to be honest with you about stuff.

1. You could always challenge her to a duel. I think the proper protocol |
|
is to send her a nice card, inviting her to show up at dawn on the outskirts of the city, with her second and whatever rusty old flintlock she wants

2. there is a difference between dishonesty and ignorance |

your family may not be LYING, but they certainly are not using any critical thinking skills.

3. My father used to send me those. Swear to God, when he died he "willed" me to his cousin. |
|
Fortunately it was easier to tell him to KNOCK IT THE HELL OFF!

5. My only conservative friend... |
|
. . . . . ...regularly sends me that crap. Of all the literally hundreds he has sent over the years, MAYBE 2 or 3 had a fair amount of truth to them. . I sometimes Google Snopes (they're virtually ALWAYS there), and send him back the facts about many of them with a challenge to send "The Truth" (which is what they're always claiming to want and/or KNOW) back up the line from whence it came. . . . I doubt he EVER has. . . .

That has to be so hard on you...
I had a friend who used to send me that sort of crap, and I kept sending her the Snopes pages...
She finally got the message, and now I no longer hear from her.
Hang in there, sweetie...

Yeah, I just sent the snopes link back and tried to be respectful about it by not really "arguing" about it. The relationship is the most important thing, it was just weird.

7. to some facts don't matter, family don't matter, only hate matters...don't know what to tell you |
|
we do move forward, we do make progress, or we wouldn't have a black president now, but the forces of backwardness are always out there and every stupid backward ignorant person is somebody's family member
if they're really backward, all i can do is not discuss politics or beliefs w. them...if they're family, it isn't worth the aggravation...actually my family has pretty much moved w. the times but i still have some ignorant friends...and yes it's aggravating, how can anyone believe and then spread such lies? it boggles the brain sometimes
if they claim to be against america's indebtedness and they didn't vote for bill clinton, they're lying not just to you but to themselves as well...because that's proof it ain't about america's debt, it's about race hatred

9. Yeah, i just have to deal with it. |
|
I actually work with my Dad, we have a small business together, and have to have an office rule to not discuss politics in the office and he's pretty good about not discussing any of it. I even refused to watch the inauguration with him because I didn't want to hear his comments during it and I wanted to enjoy my proud moment with Obama myself :)
It was just especially strange coming from my Grandma. We've never discussed politics at all before but lately it's just weird how much of this idiotic info she is passing along that is truly just...wrong.
Thanks for the support.

10. My Grandma doesn't speak English... |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 09:13 AM by AsahinaKimi
Only Korean. I don't know Korean. She does know some Japanese and I know some.. I have to speak to her in Japanese, sometimes with the help of my Dad and Mom. Its kind of frustrating when she answers the phone (She lives with my parents)..Usually i have to say:
Moshi Moshi sobo! Kimiko desu ga, chichi to haha wa irasshaimasu ka??? (Hello grandma! This is Kimiko, is Dad and Mom there??)
She's getting older now, and sometimes its hard for her to hear me.

11. I have a SIL who kept doing that. I finally blocked her e-mail. |
|
About 6 months ago I unblocked it and damn, if she didn't then send me a friend request on fb. I approved...and now she makes inane comments on almost everything I post.
It does suck.
